Great for what it is.
The Aida Plaza is older, and a bit run-down, but I was in town for a conference not a great hotel. It is a block or two past the 'good end' of upscale Market Street, but close to the shopping on Market Street, the convention center, and a matter of yards from the nearest BART station. I would stay there again without any hesitation. Breakfast at Donut World across the street to start your day. The television in my room worked poorly, but I wasn't in my room very much. It was a good base while I was there.

I wasn't there to shop, but when I called and told my daughter the stores available just up Market Street I could hear her drooling over the phone.

Bad experience
The location is ok but the neighbourhood is quite scary. The room are very durty. I felt very unsafe. One advise, do not go there alone if you are a girl....

Dirty and dangerous
As I arrived to the hotel there was a woman outside screaming for the police because a homeless man was chasing after her. It was November and they refused to turn on the heat in the room. The window was broken so my room was freezing. The bathroom faucet didnt stay on if you didnt hold it. the shower didnt have hot water. The hotel smelled and I think there may have been bugs in my bed because I woke up with bites. Its ok for maybe a night if you have ver low standards but not more than that.

Great value for location
If you don't care about amenities but care a lot about price, this is a good hotel. The location is fabulous for daytime but quite "iffy" after dark.

Downtown slum
Cute, old hotel. Modest but clean. Staff is very friendly but area is not great. Lots of homeless people and shady activity going on. Also, don't like that you have to leave your key at the desk every time you leave. what is that about?

"Unbeatable location for the price"
I was in transit to China, its facilities are OK for short periods or tourism purposes, even when they don't offer restaurant service. I felt comfortable by staying at Aida Plaza Hotel.

Aida is convenient to the BART
Aida is convenient to the BART (Civic station), which is the reason I used it, otherwise I might have tried another place. The reason is that SF Downtown can be a bit scary for the unseasoned traveller, with many homeless, druggies and other such types lurking around. The hotel has free WiFi, the hotel water works in the en suite (they also have cheaper dorm type rooms), and if you like your fill of fat and sugar, there are free donots from a box and coffee in the lobby for breakfast.
