Historic resort offers meeting space and a relaxing getaway
Located in Mission Valley, the circa 1953 Town & Country Resort Hotel is the largest privately owned resort and convention center in San Diego. The property combines the very best attributes of two worlds. On one hand, it is located a brief trolley-ride from the restaurants, shopping and attractions in downtown San Diego. On the other hand, it is surrounded by picturesque open space adjacent to a 27-hole golf course. The resort boasts a day spa and outdoor pool complex to maximize relaxation. Two on-site restaurants serve many types of cuisine.
Highlights
  • Golf 27 holes at the neighboring Riverwalk Golf Course
  • Arrange massage treatments through the Bella Tosca Day Spa
  • On-property trolley stop for easy access into San Diego
  • Two on-site restaurants
Rooms

Town & Country Resort Hotel features 970 rooms, including more than 40 suites that vary in size and configuration, comprising two towers and a host of garden bungalows. Each room comes standard with a flat-screen TV, hair dryer, ironing board and in-room safe. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access are available (fees apply).

Features

The Town & Country Resort Hotel opened with great fanfare in 1953 and has been independently owned and operated ever since.

Today, all guests receive complimentary access to a pool complex that features three pools, as well as a modest on-site fitness center. The Bella Tosca Day Spa offers a variety of treatments seven days a week (fees apply). The hotel sits next to the 27-hole Riverwalk Golf Course and near many walking and jogging paths.

Two on-site restaurants serve very different types of cuisine. At Trellises Garden Grille, dishes are prepared in French and Californian style. Kelly's Steakhouse is a more traditional meat-and-potatoes type of place.

Not as nice as I expected

This is a fine place to stay but I just didn't feel it matched my expectations. It started with finding out that just because I booked a room with Orb**z doesn't mean they actually had that room available. 1 king bedroom became 2 queen beds. The rooms were dated with lush blue carpets and the beds weren't very comfortable.

Good price - Nice & relaxing

The grounds are beautiful. The adult pool is very nice. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff is also very nice with the notable exception of some of the girls at the front desk. I've stayed here many times and there are quite a few very rude people working at the check in desk. Not sure how this happens because everyone else is amazing. Overall, a good time.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Be careful parking at the beach areas. You could get a ticket if you park and don't see the time limit signs.

not a family friendaly place

i will not ever stay at this hotel again. i don't expect to pay over a hundred dollars a night and have to pay for parking to even get to my room. then we are in a non-smoking room of which the door does not seal so the neighbors who smoked outside our door at the tables might have as well just came inside and smoked... the room size was as well very disappointing it was extreamly small. this was the worst hotel stay i have ever had.

San Diego sight seeing

Overall the hotel was very nice, and I would recommend it for the price. I would rate a 3 1/2 star if that was possible. The only drawbacks were very minor things... no mini-fridge in the room, the staff tried to charge me for water bottles I did not drink. The pool is very nice and the grounds/landscaping are very well done.

Family 4th Getaway

Our stay at the Town and Country was good. The hotel is definitely dated. The rooms have a 70's look and smell to them. At first we were placed in one of the towers on the 6th floor, the room was not good. I went back down and requested another room at the registration desk. The staff was very helpful and actually got us a different room. The pools are great. The gardens around the hotel are very nice, the only thing that needs to happen is they need to upgrade the facilities.

Family Getaway

Kind of disappointing. We spent good money booking a room based on the photos we saw on the website. The photos are a bit deceiving. The grounds are very nice and the staff was very nice and attentive. However the room we got was not very impressive. Very small and very stuffy. We had a hard time sleeping. When we walked in the room it looked like someone had been laying on top of the beds. I think a bit of remodeling is in order as well.

Who wouldn't like this place

Love going to the Town and Country resort. It's such a special place with all of the rose gardens. Great value, good room, cheap parking and close to all.
