Historic resort offers meeting space and a relaxing getaway
Located in Mission Valley, the circa 1953 Town & Country Resort Hotel is the largest privately owned resort and convention center in San Diego. The property combines the very best attributes of two worlds. On one hand, it is located a brief trolley-ride from the restaurants, shopping and attractions in downtown San Diego. On the other hand, it is surrounded by picturesque open space adjacent to a 27-hole golf course. The resort boasts a day spa and outdoor pool complex to maximize relaxation. Two on-site restaurants serve many types of cuisine.
Highlights
  • Golf 27 holes at the neighboring Riverwalk Golf Course
  • Arrange massage treatments through the Bella Tosca Day Spa
  • On-property trolley stop for easy access into San Diego
  • Two on-site restaurants
Rooms

Town & Country Resort Hotel features 970 rooms, including more than 40 suites that vary in size and configuration, comprising two towers and a host of garden bungalows. Each room comes standard with a flat-screen TV, hair dryer, ironing board and in-room safe. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access are available (fees apply).

Features

The Town & Country Resort Hotel opened with great fanfare in 1953 and has been independently owned and operated ever since.

Today, all guests receive complimentary access to a pool complex that features three pools, as well as a modest on-site fitness center. The Bella Tosca Day Spa offers a variety of treatments seven days a week (fees apply). The hotel sits next to the 27-hole Riverwalk Golf Course and near many walking and jogging paths.

Two on-site restaurants serve very different types of cuisine. At Trellises Garden Grille, dishes are prepared in French and Californian style. Kelly's Steakhouse is a more traditional meat-and-potatoes type of place.

No Convenient at all!!

I decided to stay here because I had a convention here. I thought it would be more convenient if I stayed at the same hotel.I was wrong!! The building are really far apart and if you didn't want to walk you have to get a ride from one of the golf carts which would be okay if their staff was super overloaded with 3 different conventions in the same hotel. I would have been better off staying at a different hotel and driving over. OR the Royal Tower (also the most expensive one) is the ONLY one that is close to the convention center. I would have rather stayed at the Courtyard Marriott across the street. Took over 35 mins for them to deliver my keys because I wanted to change rooms, I ended up just driving to the front desk and picking up new keys.

Anniversary weekend stay!

We stayed here because we wanted to get away for our anniversary weekend, but didn't have a lot of money to spend. The place is older, so of course things are a bit worn, but it was very charming actually. I love the little patio areas outside our room with little chairs and tables surrounded by flowers and beautiful landscaping. There are multiple buildings, 2 pools, a bar and grill with a pool table. The location was great because its in the center of town, close to everything. We were trying to decide where to go for dinner and saw Benihana on the other side of the freeway, so our decision was easy! We will definitely be staying here again!

Very, very old and very expensive for what it is

This was probably a high class resort some 40 years ago, so unless you want to spend your vacation 40 years ago, stay away. Besides, you don't get breakfast, have to pay for parking and also a "resort fee", so my suggestion - stay away!!!

watch out for hidden fees

I was surprised at how many hidden fees were charged. $40 a night was held, along with $14 a night for parking. The guy who helped me said usually about $10 a night is refunded, but that's all. We did get two travel size waters for free :/ Other than that, the staff was great! Our room was way nicer then I was expecting.

Overpriced

My experience here was very mediocre, but the price tag certainly wasn't. 1. Booking price for one night was ~$150. But add the "hotel fee" of about $15 and parking fee of $14, and you are about to break $200. 2. Booked a single king bed. Got a double instead. 3. Why did I not just ask the front desk for a different room? Well, after wondering the hotel premises, luggage in tow, for over 20 minutes looking for my room, in the dead of night, I hardly had the energy to make the trek back to the hotel lobby. (The "resort" is a group of buildings intertwined amongst each other. And the map is not intuitive.) 4. Why did I not ask the hotel personnel for directions? I did. The most helpful personnel guided me to the general direction of my building. And the less knowledgeable personnel whom I got a hold of over the phone made the helpful comment of "yes, it [the room] should be close by." This is not something you want to hear while dragging along your luggage around the block and up/down stairs. 5. Supposedly, there is complimentary internet service in the room; at least this is what my guest pass told me. The actual situation is that the wireless signal is too weak for my macbook to pick up. No internet service. 6. No breakfast. 7. Trying to get past the parking authorities is a pain. You get a beige colored card for your $14/day parking pass. But, to get out, you need to show both this pass and the other parking ticket that you get when you enter the garage space to the person in the booth. This person then proceeds to get your name, room number, social security # (kidding) to cross check with their paper logger, to make sure your parking pass is not contraband, before you are released from the premises. 8. Housekeeping was great. But the room itself was shabby, on par with Red Roof Inn. Nothing special. For an effect price tag of close to $200, save it for somewhere else.

Bad Host in Hotel Circle

The hotel was okay at best for a place with the moniker of a resort. There were no amenities or even the accommodations worthy of that "reference." We were initially okay with the $14 daily hotel luxury fee when we read the explanation card. The "complimentary" amenities were not complimentary if you have to pay for two 10oz bottles of water & WiFi. The stafff were not very pleasant or helpful, food and drinks rather over-priced and there were trip and slip hazards all around us. Cleanliness was subpar. Parking at $14 a day was no where near our room due to a lack of adequate parking spaces in all areas of the facilities. I will not return to this hotel and would not recommend it to anyone. Lose the "Resort" moniker and go with the truth; something like "Town & Country Average Over-priced Hotel!"

If you go to Stacked at the Fashion Valley Mall, the food is good and the service is also good. The electronic menu and order option at the table is nice but tempts you to order more than you would normally when you have kids with you. We did enjoy the experience!

a nice getaway

although it wasn't smack dab in the middle of comic con, it was a blessing in disguise for sure. A great place to come back to for peace and quite away from the crowds at con. With non stop buses, taxis and the trolley across the street it was very easy to get from point A to B.

Disappointed

When I made the reservation I thought the price was great. However, when we checked in we were charged an additional $14 for parking and another $14 for "complimentary" Wi-Fi, amenities (shampoo) and two 6 ounce bottles of Aquafina water for each night. Suddenly the good price was nothing special. I could have had my choice of nicer accommodations in the same area.
