Iconic stay brings luxury to downtown

The spectacular crystalline design of The Westin San Diego is a signature landmark in the city's skyline. A 100-foot atrium lobby welcomes guests to the iconic property. The hotel is within walking distance to all of San Diego's most popular attractions. On site, guests enjoy an outdoor heated pool, a signature Westin Workout Gym and more. Coast restaurant serves contemporary cuisine in a casual and relaxed setting.

Highlights
  • Terrific location in the heart of downtown
  • Swim and relax in the heated outdoor pool
  • An iconic building in the city skyline
Rooms

The Westin San Diego offers 436 rooms, including more than 30 suites with mind-bending views of the city and San Diego Bay. Each room comes standard with a flat-screen TV, the signature Westin Heavenly Bed, the signature Westin Heavenly Bath, make-up mirrors and in-room safes. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access are available (fees apply). Pets are welcome (fees apply).

Features

The Westin San Diego received AAA's four diamond award, but the property is best-known for its silhouette--the crystalline profile is one of the most recognizable buildings in the city's skyline.

All guests of the hotel receive complimentary access to the 24-hour Westin Workout Gym. The heated outdoor pool sits on a rooftop deck named Harbor Deck. Fittingly, Harbor Deck offers sweeping views of San Diego Bay. The property offers in-room spa treatments (fees apply) and provides 24-hour laundry service (fees apply).

The menu at the on-site restaurant, Coast, is casual and contemporary, much like the eatery's decor. A coffee shop (The Aroma Caf) and bar (The Bar) are also open to guests at certain times of day.

21st B-day Celebration

I came to celebrate my 21st birthday. I was greeted with friendly smiles and happy birthdays as soon as the staff found out. Room was great and comfortable. Front desk was extremely helpful with information of where I should go to celebrate. Easy walking distance from Hotel to Gas lamp (specifically 5th street). And I do not regret saying, just as easy to walk back while drunk. Easy check out...Thank you very much

Business Modern, but stale

Happy with service and prices. Parking was expensive, but great valet guys allow you to go in and out as much as you like. When you walk in, you see this hotel is all business, no style.

Great Front Desk & Great Happy Hour

I arrived early and they checked me in right away. When I discovered my room was a conjoined room, I called downstairs and asked if I could wait for another room. The staff was helpful and assured me that they would make this happen even though it was a pretty busy weekend. The hotel offers a great happy hour from 4-8 with $5 drinks, beers, and appetizers. It's a great place to stop for a quick drink & bite to eat before heading out into the night. Westin offers a free shuttle service to the airport and is beyond helpful with holding bags, making reservations for tours, restaurants, etc.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

The hotel is a short walk to the Gaslight District, the harbor, and little Italy. Looking at a map might make you think things are far away when they are pretty close. The hotel is near everything.

Professional, class hotel

Hotel was clean with appropriate amenities (e.g., flat screen TVs, dual head showers, clean fluffy sheets). Location was fine, but it is a bit on the edge of what's going on (e.g., at night, you have to walk ~10 minutes to get to anything of consequence). Staff was helpful. Price was fair. Does charge $12.95 a day for internet access, which is typical, if unfortunate.

ideal for exploring the navy ship

Great hotel, clean, comfy beds, walking distance to the marine. However the $40/day valet parking is overpriced.

Overall enjoyable

Hotel was as advertised, no bells and whistles but good location and at a reasonable price in San Diego. However, they beat you over the head for parking ($24 to stay overnight, if you leave the lot at any time, you're either charged $24 or $2 per every fifteen minutes - alternatively, $32 for valet parking, unlimited coming and going). Additionally, the lock on our room door was faulty. We discovered this as we were leaving for dinner. I contacted the front desk, they suggested we wait at our room until the maintenance person came. We waited, and the maintenance person came in about 10 minutes. He wasn't really sure what to do, and eventually I suggested we would go downstairs and ask for a new room. All in all, after about 30 minutes, had to go back downstairs to ask for a new room. The person at the front desk was very friendly and changed our room, but didn't offer any upgrade or compensation for the inconvenience. I'm not sure that she should have, but I know some customers might expect it under the circumstances.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Cucina Urbana - decent italian food, away from the gaslamp district if you want to avoid the nightlife. Otherwise, find a good restaurant in the gaslamp within walking distance of the hotel.

A nice hotel with good location for down town San Diego

This is the second or third Westin that I've stayed at. The rooms are always nice. The location of this Westin is great for Downtown San Diego. The biggest problems are that there is no free parking for the hotel ($32 a day) and you have to pay for wi-fi if you want it in your room. Also, the workout room was small and the cardio machines were in pretty rough shape.
