Iconic stay brings luxury to downtown
The spectacular crystalline design of The Westin San Diego is a signature landmark in the city's skyline. A 100-foot atrium lobby welcomes guests to the iconic property. The hotel is within walking distance to all of San Diego's most popular attractions. On site, guests enjoy an outdoor heated pool, a signature Westin Workout Gym and more. The restaurant, 400 West, serves contemporary cuisine in a casual and relaxed setting.
Highlights
- Terrific location in the heart of downtown
- Swim and relax in the heated outdoor pool
- An iconic building in the city skyline
Rooms
The Westin San Diego offers 436 rooms, including more than 30 suites with mind-bending views of the city and San Diego Bay. Each room comes standard with a flat-screen TV, the signature Westin Heavenly Bed, the signature Westin Heavenly Bath, make-up mirrors and in-room safes. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access are available (fees apply). Pets are welcome (fees apply).
Features
The Westin San Diego received AAA's four diamond award, but the property is best-known for its silhouette--the crystalline profile is one of the most recognizable buildings in the city's skyline.
All guests of the hotel receive complimentary access to the 24-hour Westin Workout Gym. The heated outdoor pool sits on a rooftop deck named Harbor Deck. Fittingly, Harbor Deck offers sweeping views of San Diego Bay. The property offers in-room spa treatments (fees apply) and provides 24-hour laundry service (fees apply).
The menu at the on-site restaurant, 400 West, is casual and contemporary, much like the eatery's decor. A coffee shop (The Aroma Café) and bar (The Bar) are also open to guests at certain times of day.

A nice hotel with good location for down town San Diego
This is the second or third Westin that I've stayed at. The rooms are always nice. The location of this Westin is great for Downtown San Diego. The biggest problems are that there is no free parking for the hotel ($32 a day) and you have to pay for wi-fi if you want it in your room. Also, the workout room was small and the cardio machines were in pretty rough shape.

Nice hotel, bad restaurant service
Stayed there for 4 days for a seminar. The room was nice, comfortable bed, large bathroom/shower. The issue I have is with the restaurant. Didn't want to go far (mingled with other attendants) so I ate at the restaurant/bar inside the hotel. The service for this type of a hotel was sub par. Food was good but took forever. The service was also bad, understaffed but that shouldn't be my problem.

A guy with modest needs
pretty great overall
I greatly enjoyed my stay. The place was very nice, the room was very nice. The amenities were outstanding. The staff was friendly. The hotel lobby has a glass elevator that is very very cool. A few small kinks caused some minor issues: 1. The breakfast in the cafe was terrible. I told them and they never got back to me about this, though they said they would. 2. The phone in my room did not work. This was fixed very quickly. 3. I asked for a few things (tissues, coffee) to be brought up, and they did not understand me - (?english as a second language problems?) but this got fixed pretty quick 4. I asked them to reserve a van to the ariport for me at a certain time, and they screwed that up twice, though it was ok because I expected that they would do that and I was able to catch a van on time. 5. On my way from the airport to the hotel, they claimed that they sent the van 2 times, so I ended up calling them 4 times, and waiting around at the airport for over an hour. Eventually they got me but there was very poor communication there.

Westin San Diego
The downtown San Diego Westin (400 Broadway) was a surprising disappointment compared to my usually positive experience at Westin Hotels. The rooms were OK but not great but the fundamental issue was the staff. There was a striking lack of helpfulness and cordiality from several of the front desk and concierge staff - this was noted by myself and at least two other colleagues staying at the hotel. I can only attribute this to a lapse in management oversight, or perhaps the hiring of surly staff. I should point out that the maids and bellhops on the other hand were helpful.

Overnight Getaway
I needed a night to myself, so I booked a room at The Westin San Diego. The staff was lovely when I checked in and my room was amazing. I was even asked if I was a Starwood member (which I am). I walked into my room, I was pleasantly surprised to find I had an beautiful view of the harbor. I will make The Westin San Diego my new getaway hotel.

Professional, class hotel
Hotel was clean with appropriate amenities (e.g., flat screen TVs, dual head showers, clean fluffy sheets). Location was fine, but it is a bit on the edge of what's going on (e.g., at night, you have to walk ~10 minutes to get to anything of consequence). Staff was helpful. Price was fair. Does charge $12.95 a day for internet access, which is typical, if unfortunate.

Would not stay here again!
I booked this via [...] while attending a convention at the Hilton (bayfront). I had never been to SD before and had no idea about the locations. The Westin downtown is located adjacent to the courthouse. There are almost no nearby restaraunts or places to eat. The real gas lamp quarter is a 20 minute walk. I'm originally from the Bronx and I would not walk outside this hotel at night alone. There are a lot of homeless individuals asking for handouts etc. The hotel itself is mediocre at best. Its lobby is shared with an office building. The room service menu is sparse. If you are either a lawyer or a defendant who needs access to the court, this is a great location. For any other business reasons, this is a terrible place to stay. I checked out early and was more than willing to forfeit my prepaid charges and moved to the Hilton Gaslamp. That is a much better located hotel with definitely better ambience.

Nice rooms, gracious staff, A+location
This was my first stay at this hotle, but I was gladly reserve a room there again. The staff was very professional and helpful. I was there for a conference (a few blocks away) and they were quick to let me know when my booth material arrived and the bellman even offered to haul it 5 blocks to the conference center for me. The room was very clean, the bed was very plush and comfortable, and the bathroom was nicely appointed too. My only issue with the room was the in room refridgerator wasn't cold and the AC wasn't cooling the room down too much - but the outside temp was mild and thus the room wasn't "hot", it just didn't get below 70, which is where I like it to be for sleeping.

Long walk from hotel
If you want a fun, but a little bit tawdry dining experience head for the Gaslamp Strip Club - a grill your own steak steakhouse with a bit of a brothel twist. Since you cook your own steak, the prices are very reasonable and the wines were fairly priced too.

San Diego trip - HDS show
Overall experience was good. Room was on a corner, so was setup a bit ackward. Couldn't keep the room cooled very well. Comforter on bed was to thick and heavy. Would of been nice to have a radio w/ an MP3 attachment, or docking station. Nice LCD TV. Could only valet park at hotel, no other option on site.
