Nice hotel

Great hotel though I've seen better Westin Hotels, especially for a starwood program. Very comfortable nice, ok bar though the staff was great. I like the location also and parking is cheaper right next door so no need to Valet.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

patricks too is a cool irish bar with a patio just a few blocks away. eclectic bunch of locals (don't judge at first glance - hang out a while). cool place now, but was much better under prior ownership - new ownership is much less customer focused and has got rid of some great long-term staff, and hired some douchey ones.

Fine visit

the hotel is very nice. Clean with a good sense of what guests need and require on an average weekend. Perhaps if I stayed longer I would find everything in superior quality too. The only thing that got to me was the noisy toliet! Wow! that thing makes loud noises when flushed. Will scare you to asprin if you weren't ready for it. But still a nice stay and a great visit!

Good Gaslamp access

Hotel location is it's best asset. Rooms are clean/comfy. The lobbies/hallways have a ghetto appearance, but it they appear to be in the process of renovating. The staff was solid. Only negative is there was a protest right outside the hotel the next morning, so it did suck to wake up to bullhorns and screaming at 7am after a late night in the gaslamp.

Great Location

From the minute I got out of the cab and into the hotel the Staff was impeccable from the Bellhop to the Check in. The restaurant staff was friendly and the food was great. The swimming pool, workout room and jacuzzi were clean. The hotel is centrally located downtown you could either walk or take a cab and wherever you went the cab fare was nominal.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

The Westfield Shopping Mall has every store you can think of right next to the hotel. The hotel does not have vending machines nor gift shop and does not stock munchies in the room so if you like a snack at night or during the day bring your own.

Construction!

I booked my hotel based on the pictures and location, nothing in the description, however, said there would be a ton of construction on the building. While napping mid-day, I was awoken by a jackhammer. Also, some of the main parts of the hotel were closed off due to the construction. REALLY disappointing. Kind of felt like a bait-and-switch type of situation. Not a terrible place though. Just make sure they're done with construction before you make a reservation because you won't get what you pay for.

The negative points :

Mattresses much too soft. 20$ fee per day for internet in the room... for a good hotel, that's so petty of them. Very limited TV channels Overall experience OK Good rate thanks to Orbitz

Westin Gaslamp SD

I stayed at the Westin Gaslamp to participate in the 2011 Rock n Roll San Diego Marathon. The location was convenient in that it is located right next to Horton Plaza shopping mall, Ralph's market, and all of the 4th and 5th street restaurants. It was also only a few blocks away from the convention center and that trolley stop. The walk down to the water and the bike/walk path was also convenient. I also walked up to Balboa Park, which took a while, but very doable. My room on the 16th floor had a wonderful view. There was a very annoying banging noise however that, while I got used to it, was constant and woke me up several nights (it was like the sound of a flag pole hitting or the elevator stopping...??? it was intermittent but constant!). I don't have much to say about the food - everything tasted like it was fake or packaged or something. There was a very funky moldy smell in the bar area and fruit flies, which was kind of gross.
