NYE in San Diego!

We arrived late, after midnight, and at 6 am we were awaken by drilling and sawing noises. We called the front desk and they informed us the construction wouldn't start til 9 am we informed them they were wrong. We were moved to another room on the 4th that had no lounge chair or table it had a treadmill and exercise equipment, which might be great if thats what I had wanted to do! There wasn't a place for our friends to sit. We stayed in that room because it was all they had that wasn't near the constructions.

Convenient Location in Downtown San Dieg

The hotel was located close to shopping, grocery store and a Post Office. We were within walking distance to the Convention Center where our Conference was being held and only minutes away from the airport. It would have been nice to have had free internet!

Lots of luxury, not so family oriented

The hotel was gorgeous in the heart of downtown San Diego. Everything you could possibly need was within walking distance. Pool was so-so and the hidden fees added up quickly. Biggest disappointment was the not-so child friendly environment. There were no activities or perks for the children even though the hotel advertises on their main site that they provide children with a welcome package upon check-in. Great place to take a "mom and dad" only trip. If kids are in tow, I'd recommend somewhere else.

Awesome little French cafe across the street from the hotel. Great food, moderate prices, but get there early because service is very slow paced.

upscale Holiday Inn

The hotel was 'ok'. The sheets couldn't have been anymore than 300 thread count. A water pipe broke leaving guest with no water for over an hour and no concessions were made. I did enjoy the friendly, courteous and helpful. And you can't beat the location!

Not the luxury I expected

Having stayed at the Westin in San Fran, I expected the same level of quality, but was sorely disappointed. The carpet was worn throughout the hotel, the bathroom had no fan to siphon off the shower steam, the bathroom door was broken and did not close all the way and the 'windows you can open' didn't open. I expected an ipod dock radio clock, and when there wasn't one, I called and was told they didn't have any. On the second day, the pool closed for an unknown period of time. It was closed for two of the four days we were there. The fitness center was being remodeled. On the other hand, the concierge and valets were great!

Business/Pleasure

Arrived in room at 3:15pm and at 3:40pm - all power went out in all of San Diego County, part of Arizona and part of northern Mexico. This property did not have reasonable contingency plans in place causing inconveniences for approximately 9 hours. No generator for core services and stairwell, emergency lighting was not working. Staff did their best but management should have been better prepared. The newer Westin faired much better. I happened to be attending a Disaster Recovery conference in San Diego and am a Certified Business Continuity Professional - so I know what I'm talking about in this instance.

Careful planning an escape on a budget

Hotel was great. Our only issue was because we booked the room through Orbitz we were put on a low floor with a Handicap bathroom. The shower situation was terrible water all over the place. What a mess. Ended up just showering in the gym. Hotel staff made no accommodations for this and told us we were in that room because of booking through a discounter.

The negative points :

Mattresses much too soft. 20$ fee per day for internet in the room... for a good hotel, that's so petty of them. Very limited TV channels Overall experience OK Good rate thanks to Orbitz

Relaxing Weekend

The rooms were a bit dated and needed some remodeling. The hotel was currently under renovations, and this had not been stated. We ate at the restaraunt for breakfast and the food was delicious and the staff was very friendly.

Disappointed

I thought that this hotel was supposed to be a 4 star hotel. I don't think so. First of all, the hotel was very hard to find. Next, we did not know that it was under renovation--a bummer. The room was very clean but nothing to write home about. I guess it was designed more for the business man and not couples. Very plain and business like. Only one little restaurant to eat at. There should have been more. The valets were great but did not know there was no . self parking parking. The hotel was close to many attractions.
