Nice but not worth the $$$

Location is with 10minutes walk of all the action, 25mins walk from the convention center and 35mins from the zoo. (When we were there they would also drop you off somewhere. Not clear this was a hotel service or an Acura promotion.) The hotel staff are very polite. The rooms are clean and decor is pleasing. But this hotel is definitely not worth what they charge for it, especially for a shorter stay. Having to pay for internet access on top of an already steep rate is just nasty. Parking is available but was over $30/day so forget the car or expect your total bill to be even more inflated. Fortunately it's close to the 192 bus from the airport and the The common area/bar downstairs is a nice space although most of the furniture looks a lot better than it sits. Style seems a little more important than substance. The restaurant onsite is decent and service is good but VERY expensive for what you get.

Nice stay

Nice hotel. Clean and modern rooms. Friendly staff. Not really good for families on over the weekend visits due to party scene and loud music.

Great Location For Walkers

Near Little Italy,Gaslamp dining and downtown. When I first checked in, the person at the desk didn't want to accept my Orbitz free day parking. After several trips to the back and looking at my printed coupon,I was given the free parking. It was valet parking so I had to tip. The room was large with a great view. The staff was pleasant and we had a terrific day in the city.

Nice hotel, great location, nice stay!

The hotel is very edgy and chic. I liked the decor and the design. I had a nice room with a view of the ocean. I loved waking up to that view. The staff was nice for the most part. I didn't like the woman at the concierge desk. She was a bit rude to my taste and I did not ask for anything special. All I wanted was a car to take me to a venue. I ended up taking a cab after the way she responded. Did not want to deal with her. The other guy at the Whenever desk was way nicer and helpful, but I think he was only there on the daytime. Also, my room seemed clean when I first walked there, but after a few hours I noticed food crumbs on the bench next to the window (yikes.) The next morning the housekeeper did not throw all the trash away from my bathroom. Not a biggy, but it is a lot nicer to walk into a clean bathroom. Locationwise, I was very happy because the whole reason of my trip was to go to a concert at 4th and B, and the venue is about 6 blocks away. In the daytime I walked to the Horton Plaza. It is not far at all either. Lastly, it is a hotel where a lot of guests like to have their little after-parties. I had one next to my room. I could hear people screaming and laughing so hard, it was ridiculous. I tried to call front desk, but they did not answer the phone. The party stopped at around 4:30am. I know so because that is when I finally could sleep. Before booking, I read other reviews, so I wasn't surprised that happened. I guess I should've joined the party. Other than that, I had a nice stay. I went to the gym, the pool and the restaurant downstairs. It is a beautiful hotel, but beware of the noise outside. After all it is downtown and when the sun goes down, its nightlife comes alive.

Time-saving tip: In Hotel

If you want to go somewhere at night and would like to use their car service to get you there, call concierge and make a reservation. They did not tell me that I needed to make reservation, but once you go to concierge she told me I had to or wait for their next car available. I took a cab.

Expensive for a so-so location, but helpfulness of staff made up for it

It's a bit pricey, and it is not located in the heart of the 'GasLamp'. But the staff were always helpful -- they are 'on the curb' in front of the hotel and provide help as needed, such as finding the 'hot spots' in the nearby GasLamp. A concierge desk is in the Lobby. I heard that the bar in the Lobby is well-known in San Diego. The 'view' of the Bay was obstructed by other buildings -- the setting was 'too urban'.

First time in San Diego

The hotel was great - friendly, professional staff. The concierge was extremely helpful and friendly and helped us get to where we wanted to go. The pool is very small, not that we were going in it because it was too chilly. The roof top lounge is very cool. The complimentary Acura car service was the best amenity and it drops you off anywhere within a 5 mile radius. We took it to the zoo one day. The hotel is in a pretty good location too as it is within walking distance to a lot including Little Italy, the Gaslamp Quarter, and the Harbor. You can walk easily to several places to eat as well. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in downtown San Diego.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

The best restaurant we went to was Acqua Al 2 located on 5th St. in the Gaslamp Quarter. It serves authentic Italian cuisine and the food was phenomenal. It is a short cab ride from the W or you can even walk it if you wanted to. I highly recommend dining at this restaurant.
