Good property with sketchy offer
They offer great service with nice, clean rooms. The only issue I had was with their online offer for free parking. They said it was not covered when I checked in, but it was offered to me on the website. I needed to spend 40 minutes on the phone with customer service to get my parking fee credited back to my account.

Great Time
The atmosphere at the W was great, the staff was great, and location of the hotel is great too...walking distance from many of the hotspots in DT San Diego (Little Italy, 5th Ave pubs). I would definitely book a stay here again, no question. A few things to note are that the rooms are a bit small and it's $35 a night to valet your car.

Nightlife tip:
Short drive from hotel
5th Avenue Bars were a ton of fun. We taxied from the W and it was less than a $10 cab fare.

Trendy but friendly
The rooms are getting a little worn, but the professional and very friendly staff make this an exceptional place to stay. Valet parking a tad pricey ($35), and self park a block or more away. As with most W properties, morning coffee not in the room, but a trip to the lobby. We happened to catch the UC Berkeley marching band staying here at the same time - I now know how many Tuba players we can share an elevator with! ;-) (2)

Close enough to the action but away from the noise...
This is my fourth stay at W San Diego. I can't say enough good about it. The staff are friendly...actually remember why you're in San Diego (to watch the Chargers); express sympathy when they lose. Seriously nice people work here. Great rooms. Once my husband and I made the mistake of staying right on Fifth and didn't get a wink of sleep. The W is close enough that you can walk to it but quiet so you can sleep at night. Also-great location to get to the seawall for morning runs and Little Italy for great meals. My preferred hotel in San Diego.

First time in San Diego
The hotel was great - friendly, professional staff. The concierge was extremely helpful and friendly and helped us get to where we wanted to go. The pool is very small, not that we were going in it because it was too chilly. The roof top lounge is very cool. The complimentary Acura car service was the best amenity and it drops you off anywhere within a 5 mile radius. We took it to the zoo one day. The hotel is in a pretty good location too as it is within walking distance to a lot including Little Italy, the Gaslamp Quarter, and the Harbor. You can walk easily to several places to eat as well. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in downtown San Diego.

Dining tip:
Short drive from hotel
The best restaurant we went to was Acqua Al 2 located on 5th St. in the Gaslamp Quarter. It serves authentic Italian cuisine and the food was phenomenal. It is a short cab ride from the W or you can even walk it if you wanted to. I highly recommend dining at this restaurant.

Expensive for a so-so location, but helpfulness of staff made up for it
It's a bit pricey, and it is not located in the heart of the 'GasLamp'. But the staff were always helpful -- they are 'on the curb' in front of the hotel and provide help as needed, such as finding the 'hot spots' in the nearby GasLamp. A concierge desk is in the Lobby. I heard that the bar in the Lobby is well-known in San Diego. The 'view' of the Bay was obstructed by other buildings -- the setting was 'too urban'.

Beware
I spent 1 night on 9/30. They decided to put me in the Third floor. This floor is where the conference rooms are located. There are a few rooms at the end of the hallway. My friends who were also staying here, could not find our room for the longest. In the room, both beds had the bedspreads with noticeable cuum stains. I tried to look for ice, little did I know I had to go three floors up for the nearest ice machine. I requested a room change. They put me in the 16th floor. The room was a little cleaner. The floor had an ice machine. Upon returning home, I saw an additional charge on my bank account for about $7.. not sure for what, will be calling them soon.
