fantastic trip in san diego!

I loved it. No complaints. The rooms were cozy and immaculate. The hotel itself was contemporary and beautiful. Next time, I'll have to utilize the pool!

great experience

My stay at the W hotel was overall a great experience. The room was clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The location was ok, within 10-15 min walking distance of the convention center and gaslamp area; but there are very few restaurant/shops in the immediate neighborhood, which is very much deserted at night. My biggest complaint was the noise - the room doors throughout the hall close with very loud sounds that transmitted clearly into my room and were disturbing.

Expected more

It is okay... I stayed 6 days for business. I expected a little more from a W hotel. It was my first time at the W, but I heard really good things about the hotel in general. My first impression was trendy, but as you stay longer the trendiness wears off. Parking was too expensive, it was $35 a day and the restaurant was horrendous. People were really nice, but it took a really long time to get someone on the phone. The hotel was also in a weird area. It is in the downtown area, but a scary walk to the restaurants and nightlife. there were a lot of bums in near the hotel.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

The walk to central downtown was about 15 minutes, but seemed a bit scary. Lots of bums en route.

Perfect Romantic Staycation

My boyfriend and I were celebrating our 3 year anniversary. We went to a dinner Downtown and came back to the hotel. The guys at valet parking were super friendly. Our room was comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. We went to the rooftop beach bar for drinks which was nice.

Beautiful swanky hotel

We went everywhere and having a hotel in a central location was great. We would wake up in the morning go for a run along the piers straight from the hotel. We'd go out to breakfast or lunch then come back to the hotel in 5-10 minutes no problem no traffic to rest and regroup. We took daytrips to La Jolla Cove, Balboa park and to PB and Ocean Beach and the hotel was very convienient to return to.

San Diego vacation

Hotel stay was fine. Valet dinged my rear fender so had to file a claim. I had to confront the valet though to get an admission. Hotel staff was extremely helpful in smoothing out the situation though so I appreciated that. Otherwise great hotel!

excellent downtown hotel

I stayed at the W while at a business conference. Everything was wonderful. Its a beautiful hotel, very modern decor, but keeping with a san diego style. The room was immaculate and gorgeous. High quality bed linens and bliss products. The outdoor "beach" bar was very nice. The pool is rather small, but adequate for a downtown location. Hotel location was great- only about 1 block to the trolley station, 2 blocks to broadway (where most of the buses travel). Only 10 min drive to the airport. The restaurant had great breakfast (try the coconut encrusted french toast). Its about a 5 or 6 block walk to gaslamp and little italy. Only about 3 blocks from the ferry to coronado island. Excellent service. I would definitely stay here again.

A W-onderful experience!

This was my first time at a W Hotel, and it will certainly not be my last after the excellent experience my partner and I had over our stay. The service, amenities, and food were nothing short of tremendous! A few of the employees really made an impression on us. [...] at the front desk offered above and beyond service like no other! He went out of his way to help us enjoy what the city of San Diego had to offer, making excellent personal recommendations! [...] Finally, [...] was always friendly and helpful each morning we saw her at the desk. The only things I would change would be heating the pool and/or adding a jacuzzi and lowering the high price of valet/overnight parking!
