Horton Plaza and Old town are right there-- just a couple of blocks away----the parking fee may seem a bit much but believe me---it is competitve and the service is great. Take advantage of the valet parking

Romantic Couples Getaway
I went here for a one night stay with my boyfriend --we were going to walk around the gas lamp area for dinner, desert, and wine (perfect location and definitely walkable locations ...I didn't complain in my shoes!) Everyone was courteous from the valet folks into the check-in desk. The legacy suite was beautiful but was a bit small. Like I told my boyfriend, I wish the suite were a bit larger but it's probably because it's an old, classic hotel and they could only update the facilities. Overall, I thought my stay was okay for the price I paid ($245) --if it were a bit more spacious then I would definitely say it was a steal.

2nd stay, not quite as nice
We stayed here in the Summer of 2011 in a superior room and it was wonderful! The room was amazing, but the electronics were aging. Old LCD TV and cordless phone were on their last legs, but it was a wonderful stay. On this trip, we decided to upgrade to the deluxe room. Mistake. Not worth the upgrade, actually, it was clearly a downgrade. We were provided a high room on a corner, but the room lacked the large windows with a great view - but a view of the fire escape and ventilation equipment. The remainder of the windows were very small fixed windows. In general, the facility is meticulously well cared for, but we did notice that one of the blinds in the room didn't match and the one in the shower was ripped and torn. Parking was also increased to $35 dollars a day.. Not sure I'd stay here again.

Excellent
Friendly helpful staff, immaculate well-equipped room, excellent facilities. A well-chosen conference venue. The hotel has the convenience of being very central, adjacent to the Gaslamp Quarter and close to Horton Plaza shopping, but this means it lacks the views that the waterfront hotels enjoy.

Short walk from hotel
I enjoyed dining with live music at Croce's Jazz Bar, run by Jim Croce's widow, only a short walk from the hotel. It is possible to be lucky and get an excellent table with a good view of the band by turning up with no booking on a Friday night - I know because I did!

Grand ole Lady
In SD, there are other hotels which are hipper, newer and edgier than the Grant - but - its just a wonderful experience staying here. The vibe is old world charm and the staff is phenomenal. PS: Only negative? It's located in a seedy part of town.
