The hotel was in a great location. The staff was friendly when checking in. However, the toilet was having issues. there are ... no shower doors leaving a mess on the bathroom floor. The blow dryer was not working and my sister found fleas in her bed and was bitten by them (pet friendly hotel). On the positive side, The hotel restaurant was amazingly good! I would visit it again and again.

I stayed there while attending a conference at the convention center. The hotel has a great location, 10 min walk form the ... convention center and only a few mins from the lively Gaslamp quarter, where there are some great restaurants and pubs. The room was small but comfortable amd clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would stay there again when I'm in San Diego.

I had heard the regular rooms were very small so we reserved a suite was also very quaint but nicely decorated and clean. The ... hotal is very near the fire department, so we were awoken a few times to sirens. Otherwise, our experience was fantastic. The service was fantastic and the room was comfortable. The location was also very convenient to many San Diego attractions.

We had an amazing breakfast at Richard Walker's Pancake House, which is just 4-5 blocks down Front Street from the hotel. The food was definitely worth the 30 minutes we waited in line before getting a table.

JC Sep 6, 2009
The hotel is located just a few blocks from the Gaslamp District, which was nice - close to the action but far enough to not ... hear the late night party goers. Staff was great. The room was smaller than we expected but fine for a couple of nights stay. Bed was comfy. Pillows were too thick and firm for my taste and I woke up with a neck cramp. Be aware that parking is $28 a night. We got a great deal on Orbitz so we were OK with paying it.

Very good service and a small room
Ciego Aug 17, 2009
Clean hotel, tiny rooms, very good service! We booked an Orbitz special and stayed in a room with two double beds for ... US$90/night. The room had a safe (large enough for a 17" laptop), microwave, coffee maker and small refrigerator. The room rate did not include a free breakfast, so we walked three blocks south to a supermarket and filled the frig with breakfast goodies (a convenience store is one block west of the hotel, too). My wife's favorite coffee shop is located in the hotel, too. Yes, the room was tiny - about 170 square feet. But with the great weather who stays in the room anyway? The bedding was great and the A/C was cool and quiet. The walls were thin, though, and we could hear noises from the adjacent rooms. The towels were huge, fluffy and soft. I'm sure you've read the other reviews about the bathroom floor being soaked after each shower. Free internet/printers on three computers in the business center and free wireless in the lobby. The equipment in the 24-hr fitness center was in excellent shape, but we got our workouts by walking eight blocks to and from the Convention Center every day. On the way to the CC (or Petco Park, for that matter), you can walk down Fifth Street in the Gaslamp district to see many, many restaurants and nightspots. And the outdoor shopping mall across the street has many medium and upscale stores to choose from. We saw lots of homeless people as we walked but didn't really feel threatened. The hotel is just a couple of blocks from the mass transit system, so that made it easy to get to the outskirts of town. The transit system can actually take you close to the Mexican border if you want to walk into Mexico. All in all, we made out well by staying at the Sofia hotel.

Orbitz did not offer the included breakfast option. We waited until 3 p.m. for our room to be straightened up even though we ... put out the "Straighten Up" tag at 9:00 a.m. Hotel is VERY convenient to the S.D. Civic Theatre and a large shopping mall, however it is in a bad neighborhood, right next to the Greyhound Bus Station, with the attendant bums, panhandlers and lost tourists. Great bar! Excellent food in the Currant restaurant (a tad on the pricey side). We could have gotten a hotel with a view of the bay for less money. Bedroom and bath are smaller than in our house!

Bad way to end a honeymoon.
Just Married in CA Aug 13, 2009
This is a very attractive hotel that is very very small. The elevators, lobby, showers and rooms are beyond NY city small, ... but it is lovely to look at-rich in decor and replica artifacts. However, when we arrived the rooms that we requested/pre paid for were not available and my sons were forced to share a room with one queen sized bed, which left one of them sleeping on the floor. Nothing was done to remedy the mistake and there wasn't an adjustment made to the fee that I already paid-one bed received and two beds purchased. There was additional confusion on the last day we stayed-they put even more exorbitant holds on my credit card "because I decided to stay another day," which I had pre paid with Orbitz as part of my original purchase-in total the holds equaled what I had already paid for the rooms. Over all the stay was exhausting and worrisome-what would each and every day bring in the way of charges and treatment. (The only exception was the valet staff-they were quick and courteous and we had no worries leaving the car with them)
