Nice stay and great location

The rooms are small, but clean and comfortable. The location is great...the Gaslamp Quarter is just a few blocks away and you can easily walk to the Midway Museum and Seaport Village. Ideal for a single or couple, but I can't image the rooms being large enough for a family. As for me, no complaints, I found it to be everything as advertised and the perfect location.

Consistent

I enjoy the hotel - anytime I am in San Diego this is the place to be The Sofia. Within walking distance to restaurants, theater, and other shopping venues. However I don't like having to pay for the extras like for the news paper and gym facilities - this used to be part of the deal. Now management has discovered another way to get extra dollars from patrons. The added charges are not part of the package through [...]or similar travel companies. Nothing was said when checking in at the hotel, only discovered when checking out - a complete surprise and not welcomed by me.

Nice Hotel

Our stay at the Sofia was great. It was just renovated and had very new and modern features in the rooms. It is an old building so the elevators are small and the standard rooms are small. But the new decor and fixtures in the rooms made up for that. The TV could have been a little bigger but we weren't watching it that much. Would have been nice to been able to get room service, but they do have a restaurant opening very soon. Also be prepared to pay for parking, they only have valet! Overall it was a great experience, good location. Within walking distance to many attractions and restaurants downtown. I would stay there again and will recommend it to my friends and family!

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The Yardhouse Restaurant is about 3 to 4 blocks east of the hotel. We liked it so much we went 2 nights in a row. Good menu, lots of beer on tap, large dining areas and dress is casual to business casual. Can get loud later on but a great atmosphere.

Great Location

The Sofia was a very nice hotel. Although the room was pretty small, that's to be expected when staying in a bigger city. Valet parking was a bit pricey, but again, to be expected when staying in a big city. It was $30, and I've paid more staying in Boston and LA. There is a small fee they'll charge you every day (about $9/day) but included in this is two free bottles of water, and bike rental. We took advantage of the bike rental and rode right down the street and took the ferry over to Coronado Island. The location was great, plenty of awesome restaurants within walking distance, and attractions like Sea World and the San Diego Zoo within a 15 minute drive.

Running San Diego Rock And Roll

Stayed there for a night to run the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon. Checked in Saturday morning, the staff was friendly and quick. The room was clean and quiet. It is close from the convention center. Close to the glass lamp district . Close to Balboa park where the race starts.

Great "european style" hotel

"European style" is a euphemism for "small rooms" -- but that's the only thing you might not like about this place. This marvelously renovated old hotel has a great renovated rooms, flat screen TVs and very curteous staff.

Chic and Convenient

I stayed here with my boyfriend because we were in town visiting a friend. We loved the design of the room and are even considering decorating our apartment in a similar fashion. The Currant restaurant was very good for dinner and I had a chance to test out the workout facility in the morning. It was spacious and had a nice selection of free weights and body bars.

Sofia Hotel

My experience at The Sofia Hotel was good.Except for the faulty phone that couldnt dial out.If I got into any trouble there was a Bail Bonds/courthouse just up the street! Otherwise the stay was nice.Just that the rooms were a tad small. The bathroom a phonebooth. The bathroom sink was the first thing you see coming in.But I had a nice stay.It was clean. But small.

Romantic Getaway

My husband and I decided to travel down to San Diego and have a romantic Valentine's day weekend! The Hotel Sophia is in a great location and the hotel is very chic and trendy. It has a great bar/resturant that has a wonderful happy hour menu! The only complaint I have is that parking is pricey... $35 a night!!!! Also, the junior room is very small... like a closet.
