A very nice stay in San Diego

The Sofia was the perfect place for my short stay in San Diego. It was close to all the best restaurants and entertainment in San Diego so I didn't need to pay extra for a cab to get anywhere. It's also on the bus line that goes to Coronado Beach, which only 30 minutes via bus. The front desk clerk even provided me with a bus pass, which I used to go to the beach and got to see more of the city. Another great amenity they have there is are the free bike rentals. They don't have too many bikes, so if you're interested in seeing San Diego via bike, get there early in the morning. The restaurant also has very good breakfast. I later found out that it's one of the best restaurants in town. If I'd known earlier I would've gone for dinner. Overall, this was an awesome experience.

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

It's right next Gaslamp district, the entertainment district of San Diego, which is only a short walk away. In addition, there are some very good places in Little Italy, that is only a mile away.

Historic & Hip Charm

I really enjoyed my stay at the Sofia. The staff was super nice from the minute I arrived thru to checkout. I had a drink in the restaurant/lounge, Currants, and that was positive too. Plus there is a Tender Greens restaurant and a Coffee Bean on the same block which was handy. Lots of other great restaurants are an easy walk. The room was very well appointed. Being a historic hotel it is a bit on the small size as others have mentioned, but it was not a problem for me. My only complaint, and it is pretty minor, was that the room a/c made the room too cool when it cycled on and then too hot otherwise. I know, first world problem. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Across the street is the Spreckles Theatre. It's an old theatre from 1012 that has been restored and now has some great shows. Check it out.

Sofia Hotel San Diego

I enjoyed the location, the staff, the decor, the downtown ease of walking to great restaurants. The view from my room was all that was lacking. My daughter lives two blocks away and it was great fun meeting her for happy hour and dinners! I did not need a rental car and a cab was always available. I do not recommend a connection via SFO as it was fogged in and I missed my flight but all went well later.

Sofia: room too small

Nice hotel, very good location, but the room was very very tiny and looked out on a little space kind of like an elevator shaft! Apparently all their doubles (meaning the room is so small they can only fit a double bed in instead of a queen size) are that size. When I mentioned the claustrophobic feeling of the room as I checked out, however, they did volunteer to waive the fee.

Family Business

I traveled to San Diego on a family business matter. Because of the location of the hotel, I was able to enjoy much of the city while attending to my business objectives. Great value, location, charming and good staff.

This hotel is in a great location in an old remodeled building. Due to the age of the building, there are certainly quirks but the staff couldn't be more accommodating or helpful. I switched rooms and my second room was great. Walking distance to buses, trolleys, shopping center and tons of restaurants. Small and charming with a good restaurant and coffee shop attached.

There is a small mall nearby with Nordstrom's and Macy's and other shops. A block or two from that are several streets- 5th and 6th Avenues filled with restaurants and some small shops. Safe area, clean city.

Enjoyed it!

Staff is extremely friendly and helpful!! Room is very clean and tidy, and I like how the bottled water (2 per day) are complimentary! A lot of hotels would charge you if you have their bottled water. The location is excellent too, walking distance to pretty much everything, and it is also near some major trolley stations! The only down side of it is not many amenities available in the hotel (such as pool), but considering the price and the size of the hotel, it wouldnt affect my stay decision too much :). Another thing is maybe can improve on the sound proof system, since i could hear guests watching TV the next door lol. Overall speaking, I had a great experience in the Sofia!
