the Sofia was AWESOME

Whoever said the pillows are hard to sleep on because they are square is not very smart! The pillows are squished, folded, and tucked into squares so they look pretty... all you have to do is untuck the ends and pat them down. normal pillows! Anyway, I LOVED THE SOFIA! The rooms were small but worked for us. We did get the queen bed. The view of the brick wall wasn't the greatest but we didn't spend much time with the shades open anyway. The bed was so comfortable and the flat screen TV was just right for the room size. I'll admit the half shower enclosure was weird but we just put down a towel and that helped. Housekeeping will bring you new towels every day so that shouldn't be a problem for most people. The service was awesome, especially the valets! The parking is $28, but it's convenient - quick and easy... as downtown has horrible parking issues. The business center is open all the time... I had to check my email at 2am for some reason. HA. The Sofia is located about a block from Horton Plaza and a few blocks from the Gaslamp. Perfect location!

Great Hotel

This was a GREAT HOTEL. It was the night of my Company Christmas Party so I was looking for something nice and inexpensive. It exceeded what I wanted. I would for sure suggest this Hotel to anyone. The rooms that end in 33 have the best views I think.

Convenient

The hotel is very contemporary in design. While the rooms are small, it was certainly manageable. It is within walking distance to many places, restaurants, shopping, etc. The tour of the Gaslamp district offered on weekends helped us orient to these also.

Excellent Central Hotel

A nice boutique hotel - looks recently renovated - very central - not far from lamplighter district. High thread coat sheets and comfortable beds. Water available in a cooler in lobby, fireplace and sitting areas in lobby to relax, plus three free computer terminals (or free wireless internet in lobby if you have your own computer). Did not try out the yoga room or fitness centre on second floor. Close to everything downtown including Horton Plaza and all bus, trolley, train connections. Airport is of course very close to downtown in San Diego - so you can take public transit from airport if you want if you don't have too much luggage. In room safe large enough to store a laptop or your valuables - handy for business travellers. Most of the rooms seemed to be cleaned in afternoon so you can sleep in as long as you want as long as you put the sign out. Front desk staff seemed friendly and helpful. Free late check outs with no charge. In general very much enjoyed my stay here - very comfortable safe hotel. Bus station next door to hotel but never had a problem walking by there even at 8 p.m. You can walk on opposite side of street if you feel more comfortable then cross back over the hotel at the side entrance. If returning to San Diego would stay here again and recommend to friends/family.

A surprise

I was in town for a family event and didn't spend much time in my room but I sure wanted to. The room was a suite and had a great layout. The bed was very comfortable, the shower (with bathtub) was great with hot water and great water pressure. The recent remodel was well done, modernizing without effecting the charm. I especially liked the extra thick carpet pad. The location was perfect , close to the gas light district, movie theaters, shopping and great restaurants. There was also a 7-11 convenience store nearby that is open 24 hours. The only things negative were additional parking fees, taxi service was readily available.

Great location

The Sofia Hotel was well located near the Gaslight district where you had a choice of many restaurants. It was also within walking distance of the Marina district with some up-scale dining. The rooms are somewhat small and we had to use the lobby to play bridge with friends. This was okay but not conducive to mixing your own drinks and somewhat lacking in privacy. Other guests and the desk staff were seemed to be okay with our card playing. The only parking available was with the hotel at $24. per night and no on-street parking available.
