Great location, for the price

The staff were very friendly and helpful: I had issues with cancelation of my last night and they contacted [...]for me to negotiate the refund. Nice clean minimalistly-decorated hotel. Fitness room was lovely with yoga room. The only issue was that theycharged you a guest/service fee each night that you didnt find out about till check out. This was for water (they provided 2 bottles a day in your room) and newspaper in lobby. I just thought that they should have been more transparent about that

Sofia Hotel San Diego

The Sofia is comfortable and a great value. The decor is contemporary and attractive. A room with one double bed is a little small, but that's not an issue for me when traveling alone. Staff are without exception friendly and helpful. The only reason I do not give 5 stars is that the lighting in the sink/vanity area is rather dark, and I had to ask for extra toilet paper. The location is fabulous--right next to Gaslamp Quarter and convenient to public transportation. Being downtown you will hear sirens occasionally at night. The hotel itself is usually nice and quiet.
