Convient location, friendly staff

Stayed at the Sofia Hotel for 4 nights for a convention in San Diego. Very pleased with the stay - the location is close to everything (airport $15 by taxi, convention center, harbor, etc). The staff were very friendly and helpful - I had a package sent prior to my arrival and the bellman took good care of it and when I sent it back to home, they took care of it as well. The room was neat, clean and well furnished. Free Wifi was available. The only cons was the room was small compared to other 4-star hotels; however, it's understandable for its prime location. All in all, we were happy with our stay at the Sofia Hotel in SD. Will stay again.

I love this hotel

The Sofia was friendly, comfortable, in a great location and at a great price. I really loved my room and view. There was plenty of interesting things within walking distance, including the Farmer's Market. Really great get away. Would go back and stay longer!

Beautiful historic hotel

I loved the hotel, great location and we walked everywhere. There is a Coffee Bean next door and a great restaurant downstairs. They have yoga classes included in your room rate. Lots of extra amenities. The room was small and needed some little things, like there was only 1 hook in the bathroom to hang a towel on, but there were 2 of us. No tub, just a shower and the a/c was a bit noisey. We could here the TV of the room next door through the walls, but otherwise pretty quiet. Comfortable beds and it's nice to have the frig. Would definitely stay again.

Wouldn't go back

The hotel bills itself as a convenient location for business travelers. It is convenient--close to the State and Superior Courts, and close to my financial business destination. But it's a tourist hotel--it allows pets and kids, which is fine. But kids roaming the hall at midnight is not a business hotel. Free amenities are not. You are given a piece of paper when you register, touting the amenities you get. WiFi, 2 bottles of water, yoga CD for in-room exercise, lots more. What you are not told is that there is a daily charge for these amenities, whether or not you use them. It's not in your room charge, so what you pay online is just the beginning. Have a car? That's $34 a day extra, even if you park when you arrive and don't use the car until you leave. Not on the website, not on the online charges. Want breakfast? Sure, for an additional charge--2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, small fruit bowl was $15, before the tip. The person who seats you in the restaurant is often to be found chatting with friends on the sidewalk or at the front desk. On the first day (with a business meeting in 30 minutes), it took me 5 minutes to find him so I could get a seat. The rooms are too small for in-room yoga. They are well-planned, complete with fridge and microwave. But no room for yoga. Shower has no door, so the bathroom floor gets splashed unless you are super careful. But a great shower head. The air conditioning is frustrating. When it's on, it's loud. Really loud. Not-getting-sleep loud. When it's off, the temperature in the room rises quickly. That said, it is convenient and trendy. Nice pillows, nice mattress.

Business Trip

The hotel was wonderful, very clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The valet service was expensive and it would've been nice if there was complimentary parking, that was the only real downside. Rooms are small, but cozy and modern.

Great hotel, but the shower was a little odd

This was a great hotel, great location, great service - everything was really excellent. The only thing was the shower only had a partial glass enclosure, so the bathroom got completely soaked when the shower was used. Poor design....

Wonderful Weekend Getaway

Staying at the Sofia was the one of the highlights of our trip, the staff were all pleasant. We loved the restaurant! While in San Diego we rode the tour trolley this was a great way to see the city and get a little history while we were at it.

Weekend getaway

Overall it was a nice hotel with great staff! The girl who checked us in gave us a quick run down of places to check out that night all of which were walking distance. You don't have to drive anywhere and if you get tired from walking just get a bicycle taxi back to the hotel. The room was a little small but we came to visit the city and not stay in the room all night. Aside from that, valet parking is $34 per day and you can come and go as you wish or if you choose to park yourself its still $34 each time.
