Nice weekend trip.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room sufficiently equipped. Nice and clean fitness room, sufficient for a good work out. Great food for a reasonable price during happy hour. Close to the Gaslamp Quarter, to the Coronado ferry and to the airport. Easy to reach by public transport.

Small rooms and rude staff
The only nice thing about this hotel is the location if you don't count the county jail next door. The rooms are incredably small even by European standards. We booked a 2 night stay but had to cut our stay short and check out after the first nights stay, but they insisted on charging us for 2 nights. Staff is extremely rude and they charge extra for everything. We don't recommend this hotel. There are lots of great hotels in San Diego - this isen't one of them.

Traveling on a budget
Great value for someone traveling on a budget
The Sofia Hotel is located in a perfect location. I stayed there for a week and found it very convenient. The staff were very helpful with all questions I had such as suggestions restaurants and flagging cabs down. The Hotel is located within a 5-10 minute walk of Petco Park and Gaslamp Quarters. Its a 15 minutes bus ride from The San Diego ZOO, just hop on the 7 bus across the street. It is a perfect hotel for anyone who is traveling on a budget. You wont find a hot tub in your room and things like that but if you are more interested in seeing the town, this is a great place to stay. The rooms are a little small but for the price it was great. Also, the restaurant in the hotel, Current, is also very good.

very well located and very comfortable
It was close to every good place in San Diego. There was a plaza just two blocks from the hotel, with everything. It was really good. What I didn't like was light odor to disinfectant but I never saw any bug and the towels were very clean but not really very white. But that are really very small details, the hotel was really good and very convenient. I will stay there when I go to San Diego again

Clean, comfortable, classy
We had a great stay at the Sofia. We only stayed one night but the hotel was very comfortable and the staff was friendly and well-informed. My only complaint is that parking is difficult and expensive so be aware if you have a car. I really would have liked to have more time to check out their gym facilities!

There is no bathtub in the room. Every room should have a bathtub . Was charged $8.25 per day upon check out as a guest service charge. This is a hidden cost.

Great place for a getaway!
I love San Diego, and was very eager when the chance arose to come back for another conference and vacation. This time I was trying to be a little thriftier than staying in one of the hotels directly across the street from the Convention Center. I got more than I bargained for. The price was a good value compared to other similar high quality hotels. The location was not unreasonable a walk to the convention center and was actually centrally located to many other things (Horton Plaza, Gaslamp District, Little Italy, and the Embarcadero). For those willing to walk 8-10 blocks, this is a wonderful resort for visiting many sites. My only thought was that parts of the room were obviously dated, but given the history of the hotel they've done an amazing job of keeping the place renovated and up-to-date! I would totally recommend this hotel to anyone who asked, and would very much stay there again myself!

Short walk from hotel
The Old Town Trolley Tours is totally worth the money! There is a stop not 2 blocks from the hotel where you can make the initial "hop on." See the sites, learn some San Diego history, and visit many interesting places for much cheaper than a taxi ride!

Room cleanliness
Although the cleanliness in this hotel is good, they have to handle the control of insects inside the rooms.

Cute hotel, great location
The Sofia is conveniently located on bus lines (15 minutes to the airport!), close to the main drag of the Gaslight district (restaurants galore!) , and just a block away from the open-air mall Horton Plaza. My room was small but efficiently appointed with wifi, microwave, fridge, water and coffee (free), wine (for purchase), alarm clock with music docking station, and nice towels. I never did figure out how to turn on the TV but I'm sure a call to the front desk would have fixed that. The staff was friendly and polite, and the lobby area has comfortable seating and a nice little fireplace.
