Not satisfied
Dana and Pete Nov 1, 2009
we arrived at the hotel on friday, friday night we both got food poisoning. Saturday the both of us stayed in doors. I went ... outside to get a soda.. and all but 1 was sold out (only diet pepsi was aviable- very annoying), approx 730-8pm the outside infront of our room was extremely noisy. We gave it about an hour or so before I called the front desk, I spoke to the receptionist and complained about the noise, and explained that we were both sick. They said they would take care of it, the entire nite there was people out side making loud noises and in the rooms next to us. At 2 am I called the front desk again because the noise was rediculous and all we heard was laughing and doors opening and closing (slamming), they said they would take care of it. At 4 am I was awoken again, and I called the front desk and complained they said they were very sorry and would call and send security down to take a look, well about an hour later it got quieter but we did not get a quiet night/good nite rest because of the loud people and it was very annoying to have to keep calling the front desk to keep the noise down. Upon check out no one asked us how our stay was, nor asked us anything other than "thank you for staying with us" We both were very dissatified.

The hotel staff was friendly. They checked us in early (at 10:00am) but keep in mind we went during off season. The location ... was very convenient to public transportation as we did not have a car.Pickup was right outside of the hotel. The room needed some updating but was clean. Hang up the do not disturb sign before going to bed as housekeeping was anxious to get in the next morning. We did all of the tourist attractions i.e. zoo, SeaWorld, Old Town, Coronado, Belmont Park and Balboa Park. Strongly recommend Kayacking in LaJolla. Rent the Kayack and don't pay for the tour. We purchased the Go San Diego Cards and Kayacking was included. Off season the attractions close early so plan your time wisely. Hotel pillows were AWFUL!!!

Directly across the highway from the hotel is a place you can buy seafood/burgers. This is great for take out. The prices are so cheap and the food is good. I would not eat in as the place smells like fish and the table and chairs are not much to speak about. Heard about the place from the bus driver. Also, walk across the bridge and up to the rollercoaster. It's your typical CA. beach town and a beautiful ocean. If you want to stay closer to the beach try Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach or Mission Beach.

Awesome Vacation
Restfinder Oct 5, 2009
My husband and I visited San Diego for our 25th Wedding anniversary and had looked at reviews from several hotels before ... choosing a bayside view at the Dana. We were very pleased with our room and especially the view and the balcony, where we spent our mornings. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was luxurious and we loved the line of products that they gave us each day to use. The grounds were gorgeous. The hotel offered a free shuttle to Sea World which was also within walking distance from the Dana. We also visited the San Diego Zoo and received detailed instructions on how to get there using the city bus and tram system. The Dana also has a marina where you can rent different types of water vehicles. There were also several dining opportunities offered as well. We loved our stay and would definitely stay there again on our next trip to San Diego.

Sea World was just a very short shuttle ride or short walk across the street from the Dana. We also went to the Zoo, which was a bit more complicated using the bus system, but we found the bus drivers very helpful.

The Dana On Mission Bay
Katie super traveler Sep 28, 2009
The room was clean but difficult to move around in. The view was certainly not worth the extra money. I felt it was way ... overpriced for what is received. Paying for parking is ridicualous! No one even mentioned parking upon our arrival or given choices. Had I have known they charged for parking, I would not have stayed there. We learned by getting lost and asking for directions to find it, that other hotels were better priced and have free parking and better location. The room was charged automatically the day of purchase before arrival not giving the option to pay with cash or another card! I will never stay at this hotel again! We had to climb stairs with our luggage to get to the room. Older persons with health issues but not handicapped, would find it difficult to stay there if the room is not on the ground floor. The tv promoted audibly adult pleaure films to purchase. Regular tv was difficult to find and the remote was not share friendly. We felt "taken" by the time we left. Other hotels in the area were more convenient and better priced. We took business cards of hotels that helped us find our way.

San Diego is quite difficult to find your way because of goofy, inconsistent signage. Mapquest and Google both are based on information obtained from the same government agency that's responsible for signage and traffic engineering. I drove a truck around the country for many years so I think I have a reliable data-set to draw my comparison from. The Dana is in walking distance of Sea World and possibly Belmont amusement park and nothing else. Rent a car when you book the trip.

If you want to see all three attractions (Sea World, Wild Animal Park and San Diego Zoo be sure to check out Costco.com ahead of time to purchase the 3-for-1 deal if they have it. Also, check out the list of performers at Wavehouse nearby to see some big name performers for as little as 20 bucks!

Although there is a Sea World shuttle that comes to Dana, we walked to Sea World because we missed it. It probably only took about 15 minutes to get there. However, if you want to take the shuttle be sure to find out the times that it comes, because it comes only about 3 times for pickup and and then 4 times at night to get back.
