Nice hotel, but...........

Hotel was very nice, very clean and close to local activities. Night time desk assistance was sub par. Stay away from the onsite restaurants as they are overpriced with marginal food. Location was very convenient and close to down town. We would stay again.

Great location, average room

We enjoyed the pool and ambiance. The views were awesome and we found the location great. The prices at the restaurants were a bit high so we didn't eat there. We were a bit underwhelmed with the rooms. There were water stains in the bathroom and the wall under the air conditioner was in disrepair. The beds were comfortable. We had to wait for our room to be made up two of the five days we were there.

The Property Itself

The property has three new buildings which were built within the last two years. The other rooms at their original bulidings are not to be used-dank, dark, crummy. Our complaint got us upgraded to the new rooms at no additional cost. That was outstanding. The staff was outstanding. You get what you pay for.

looks great on website

We got there a bit early and they were pretty good about getting us in early (we drove in from northern california), although the ladies in the front desk were much more interested in their own conversation than they were about answering some of my questions. :( I loved the patio, private and classy, but the neighbors had really whiny children and they kept trying to open our door (very annoying). It was definitely secluded, but it was not all that I was expecting for the price that it is allegedly priced at (since we were told we got it for 50% off). I am not sure I would go back, but it is very secluded and peaceful. The cold weather did not help either.

all in all it was a very nice place. Good location and easy to get around. The only drawback was that the hotel charges for parking.

Nice Stay, Expected More

The room was clean and everything worked just fine. The location was good. Given the chance, I would have booked a Hotel that was right on the beach Vs right on the bay, but it was a nice short walk to Sea World. We really enjoyed the food at the Firefly and the Blue Pearl. The Firefly was pricy, but very nice. The Blue Pearl exceeded my expectations in food, service, and value. The big disappoinment was the fitness center. There was one broken stationary bike and one old elipctial machine that almost worked. There were photos of weights on the walls, but no actual work out equipment in the tiny closet they called the fitness center. and I'm sorry, but the air hockey table does not count as a work out machine either. It was a joke and they really should not advertise having a fitness center. The room was fairly small and it felt very motel like. However, the pool and the grounds were very nice. There were some homeless folks living in bushes around the bay and very close to the Hotel. I didn't like that very much. Last, there is no other restaurants close by. You have to walk to the beach if you want to eat outside of the hotel. We didn't rent a car, but cabs were readily available. The best part of the trip was the beach. With that stated, I'll say it again. Don't stay at the Dana. Stay at the Pacific Terrace on the beach. You'll have more fun.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

If you stay on Mission Beach, there are plenty of very good restaurants close by. Don't worry about staying close to Sea World. You will only be there for one day anyway. One day is plenty of time to see and do everything Sea World has to offer. All of the nice restaurants around the beach were great!

Not bad - but pricey

For the price, rooms were pretty ordinary - not very clean, old beds, small window AC, bathroom door not shutting easily etc. But we liked their restaurants. The Firefly was really good!

Not What I'd Expected

The description and photos suggested a much nicer room. The room had some nice updates but everything was mismatched and the hotel wasn't better - except for the waterfront location - that a Super 8. It acted like it was something special, but other than the grounds it didn't deliver. Both pools were packed with tons of loud kids so don't expect a get-away for adults here. The location is great, the waterfront beautiful. The wait to check in was very long as was the one to check out and parking was very tight for having to pay extra to do so.

Just average

Buildings are old and showing signs of age. Room was in pretty good maintenance but not as nice, neat, or clean as a modern facility would be. Rooms are smaller. I didn't like having to pay an extra $16 for parking in the lot.
