Great location

Great location near Sea World and wonderful marina backdrop. Totally feel safe. No real gym to speak of but excellent jogging path. Breakfast at The Blue Pearl was fantastic with great, attentive staff, especially the Manager, [...]. Some of the front desk staff at Dana could be a little more warmer and accomodating (a bit snotty). Definately should renovate other rooms similar to the new units. Old rooms are small and claustrophobic, especially with two queen beds. Get "do not disturb" signs for front doors. Would definately stay again but in the newer units. Pools are great and Sea World shuttle a plus. Can see Sea World fireworks really well each night! Close to EVERYTHING!

Not What I'd Expected

The description and photos suggested a much nicer room. The room had some nice updates but everything was mismatched and the hotel wasn't better - except for the waterfront location - that a Super 8. It acted like it was something special, but other than the grounds it didn't deliver. Both pools were packed with tons of loud kids so don't expect a get-away for adults here. The location is great, the waterfront beautiful. The wait to check in was very long as was the one to check out and parking was very tight for having to pay extra to do so.

The Dana On Mission Bay

The room was clean but difficult to move around in. The view was certainly not worth the extra money. I felt it was way overpriced for what is received. Paying for parking is ridicualous! No one even mentioned parking upon our arrival or given choices. Had I have known they charged for parking, I would not have stayed there. We learned by getting lost and asking for directions to find it, that other hotels were better priced and have free parking and better location. The room was charged automatically the day of purchase before arrival not giving the option to pay with cash or another card! I will never stay at this hotel again! We had to climb stairs with our luggage to get to the room. Older persons with health issues but not handicapped, would find it difficult to stay there if the room is not on the ground floor. The tv promoted audibly adult pleaure films to purchase. Regular tv was difficult to find and the remote was not share friendly. We felt "taken" by the time we left. Other hotels in the area were more convenient and better priced. We took business cards of hotels that helped us find our way.

Get specific directions before leaving home for places you want to see. You get easily lost to places close by. Streets are not well marked.

Disappointing

We have stayed at the Dana before and had a great experience, but this time the service was a bit lax. We put out the pre order breakfast menu and it was never picked up. We had to go to our meeting hungry, not a good way to start your day.

nice surroundings

first 3 nights were miserable. very noisy rooms, child crying all night next door. Kids overhead running. very poor sound proofing. was moved to different room across grounds then was moved again as they had room pre booked for following night which they had overlooked. would not recommend place for quiet R&R. clean and great local and staff however. no fitness center to speak of. two cardio machines non functioning.

Nice, but could be better

The hotel was good, but it was showing some signs of wear. The casual eatery was closed for most of my stay which left very little in the way of dining choices. The hotel is situated in a great location, but if you don't have a car, there isn't much within walking distance to enjoy besides Sea World.

all in all it was a very nice place. Good location and easy to get around. The only drawback was that the hotel charges for parking.

Just average

Buildings are old and showing signs of age. Room was in pretty good maintenance but not as nice, neat, or clean as a modern facility would be. Rooms are smaller. I didn't like having to pay an extra $16 for parking in the lot.

Great hotel, but very noisy in rooms

Only issues I had with this hotel is the airport shuttle service is not very accomodating. Can't schedule a pickup just have to call once you are at the airport with your luggage and can take up to an hour for pickup so we just got a cab instead. There is no insulation or sound barriers in the rooms so if you like to clearly hear the conversations of those walking past your room or your neighbors this is for you. Only really bad one night our neighbor was having a disagreement with hotel staff at 3am and it woke everyone in my room up.

Really pretty, a little damp

The Dana is a great location, and the attention to foliage gives you the feeling of being hidden in a rainforest garden. Unfortunately, it was rainy when I visited San Diego, and as a result, my room often felt damp. The bathroom had a few evidences of this dampness. However, it was a great value, and terrific location. I would visit again if the occasion arose.

Nightlife tip: Short drive from hotel

The Harp is a super cool local bar in Ocean Beach. As a small, locally owned, Irish pub, its friendly atmosphere and amazing staff make you feel like you're in your own favorite bar from home.
