Somewhat disappointing
We were in one of the older buildings (500). The air conditioning in this building is provided by very loud wall units. What should have been a nice alternative of simply opening the window was impossible because our room faced W. Mission Bay Drive, which has noisy traffic all night. Although the Dana boasts of two restaurants, one only provides room service most nights of the week. The other, Firefly, is ok but nothing special, surviving off the convenience factor for families with kids. My chicken sandwich was nearly raw in the middle. That being said, the location by Mission Bay is pretty and centrally located in San Diego.

Great Location, No clue customer service
While we enjoyed the city, we had some issues with the Dana. First the good stuff. The "tropical pool" was very nice. Right outside our door, heated, and nice hot tub. The location was great, sea world, multiple beaches all close. Now the bad. It seemed like everytime you turned around there was a fee. Shuttle to the airport 18 bucks, park at the hotel 18 bucks. Internet access 9.95 a day. For what they charge per night alot of this should have been included. What exactly did my room charge go for if I have to pay for every amenity. My wife forgot her swimsuit and they are charging us the postage to send it back. How cheap can you get? They didn't even offer a coplimentary continental breakfast. I get that at a motel 6. For a supposedly upscale place I was very dissapointed.

The Unimpressed on Mission Bay
Upon my arrival to The Dana on Mission Bay, I was not immediately greeted by the front lobby staff (the female staff member did not acknowledge me or my daughters standing at the counter and so we had to wait to be assisted by a male staff member who was already helping another customer. I was not impressed by the rooms or the amenities (pools/jacuzzis) the hotel had to offer. The room was extremely compact, outdated and had an unpleasant odor. In addition, my room was supposed to have a pool view, but that "view" was completely covered by banana trees, so it was not much of a "view". I was very upset by the $18-a-day for parking (very ridiculous since most travelers will be driving by vehicle and will, obviously, need a place to park it, preferably on location so they can be close to their room). I would not recommend this hotel to other travlers. I plan to stay at another hotel when visiting the San Diego area, again.

Not so great of accommodations!
the room was very small and had a musty odor that cannot be overlooked. The grounds and outside setting of the hotel was beautiful but deceiving of what you will receive in a room.

Older hotel with thin walls
Hotel looks good but the rooms need work. They were clean and we thought it would be nice to stay there. At 3:32AM, the room next to us had a party that woke us up. We could their talking as if we were in the same room. Called front desk and they said they would send security up. Nothing happened and noise kept up all night. This hotel needs to put insulation in the walls so you don't hear the next room as clearly as we could. Never will stay here again and will not recommend the hotel to anyone. We work in San Diego and people who visit for work or play ask us where to stay. Again, one more hotel avoid.

Hotel was OK
It is listed as a hotel, but is really a motel. The rooms looked old and there was nothing special at all about it. Very small rooms also. The only thing nice was the flora and fauna all around. In general to much money for what you get.

Spend the money and buy a travel book for the area you are visiting. We used it for almost every hotel and restaurant and it was pretty much right on.

For the price I expected more
The rooms were a bit like being in a chalet in the UK in 1950, they could have done with both and internal and external makeover. I would have been happy with the standard if the cost was 50% less but do not think even with its location it warrants the price paid.

Great Staff - Bad Room
Paid for a Bay View room, which was at the end of the hotel and was actually a tree view room. First night was kept awake by a lady upset with what her pimp was charging for her services. Had homeless people at the edge of the property we could watch for a few days. Staff was wonderful!!!! Room was small but okay. Would go back if I had a better room.

Needs better management
The hotel is in a nice and large piece of property. It looks at it was at one point a very nice hotel. But it also looks like they have not done much to it lately. Rooms are stuffy and humid. Linens are old smelly. The personnel is not bad but could be a lot friendly and more helpful. I found it too expensive for the services they provided us.

GREAT LOCATION FOR SEA WORLD
THE HOTEL IS IN GREAT LOCATION FOR SEA WORLD AND BEACHES. THE STAFF IS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND NICE. THE TELEVISION SATALITE RECEPTION WAS TERRIBLE. THE CARPET SO DIRTY WE HAD TO WEAR SHOES IN ROOM. THE TOILET RAN CONSTANTLY AND THERE WAS NO SMOKE ALARM. THE RESTAURANTS ON THE GROUNDS WERE EXCELLENT. HOTEL HAS POTENTIAL.
