Pretty good value for the money

We were pretty happy with the Dana; if we come back to San Diego we would probably stay there again. First the positives: 1) Loved the location. Very close to Seaworld (which is why we initially chose it) and the beach. Not too far from downtown and quick access to I-8 and I-5. 2) Loved the grounds - they were VERY well kept and my wife loved the smell. 3) Liked the restaurants (we had breakfasts at the Pearl and dinners at the Firefly) . The dinners were a little pricy but the food was pretty good. 4) Staff was very helpful and responsive. The housekeeping and the engineer (see below) came very quickly when called. 5) The pool (we only used the one on the west side) was very nice; our son loved it. 6) The rooms were neat but small. With two queen beds there was barely enough room for the three of us. The bathroom did have two sinks along with the fridge and microwave. We did have a few problems. 1) The electronic lock on our door malfunctioned one night at just about the worst possible time (9 pm after dinner with a cranky four year old and outside temperatures dropping). I went to the hotel lobby where I was given two new key cards neither of which worked. The engineer came and replaced the batteries (I think - not sure exactly what he did) and got us in the door. However, it did the same thing the next morning and the entire lock had to be replaced. My parents, two doors down from us, had the same problem with their lock although it did not require replacing the lock. 2) We went through towels quickly (we went to the pool twice a day) but the staff was good about providing extras. 3) The night before checkout I used the computer in the lobby to check in for our flights. I had to pay a baggage fee and used a credit card to do so. It is a card I use rarely (the last time was six weeks prior) and the very next day someone tried to buy $430 worth of stuff from Walmart with it. Could have been coincidence but seems unlikely. 4) Fitness area was off-site and involved a drive. There was a very nice path along the bay to run and bike on.

No rooms with view

Requested room with a view - thought that meant bay view - turned out it was a "view' of the courtyard, as opposed to a parking lot. Not bad - just beware. Clean rooms but on the small side so cramped. Air conditioner installed near floor close to bed under table so blows directly on someone. Nice that robes and big towels are provided for the very nice pools and hot tubs - which makes up for not having any beachfront. Also - just a shuttle ride or walk to Sea World is great.

April School vacation week at the Dana

Front desk very helpful, from two bath towels in 5 minutes flat to shutting off the terrace light by having maintenance come by at 10 PM to unscrew the bulb in the outdoor fixture. Heated pool at about 78 degrees and hot tub at 102 were fabulous during the cool 50 degree nights and 65-75 days we had the week of April 16th. Hotel shuttle to Seaworld was convenient and saved $15 in parking. Location of the Dana put us 5 minutes to an ocean beach, 5 miles to the San Diego Zoo and the same distance to San Diego's Little Italy where we had a great meal (at a nice price) at the Tratoria Fantastico. Overall, a great spot, with a nice set up for a reasonable price. Just what you hope for when you select a hotel as a base of operations for school vacation week with your kids! Planning on going back to the Dana in order to see the rest of San Diego!

Great location but needs updating

The location at Mission Bay is great. Hotel itself is average and could use some updating. Was there on a business trip and the hotel served it's purpose. Not sure if I would stay there for vacation.

Pretty good deal overall.

The staff was very accommodating with some minor issues we had. The hotel is in a great location for fast access to beaches and easy access to downtown. There are great walking and biking trails right outside the rooms that run right next to the bay. We have stayed here before and, although the rooms are in need of updating, we would definitely stay there again.
