A Treasure

A jewel. Located in the Hillcrest area of San Diego, it is very walkable. Everything you need is within walking distance, or is a short drive away.Public transportation nearby. Forget those reviews about noisy ambulances, the hotel seems to be soundproofed, The staff and ammenities are terrific--the room comes with a full kitchen and equipment; is clean and roomy, with two large flat screen tvs and pillow tops on matresses. Great pool area.

Mall with a Trader Joe's and Ralphs nearby. What one doesn't have, the other does. Whole Foods a short walk down the street. Can save money by eating in. The hotel has two gas grills you can use any time. Picnic by the pool.

Loved this hotel and location

This was a delightful surprise. We stayed in the one bedroom which had full kitchen (including a dishwasher). Very nice living and dining area, small but nice balcony off living room. Large bedroom and bath and plenty of closet space. In my mind it was more like having a full size one bedroom apartment. Staff was wonderfully helpful and friendly and ready with suggestions of where to go and how to get there, including a little map of the area around the hotel with restaurants, grocery store, etc. Breakfast was okay, not great, but considering the rooms have full kitchens it's not surprising they don't do a lot for breakfast. The location is very close to Balboa Park and the Zoo & close to the harbor and its wonderful seafood restaurants. The surrounding area (North Hill area) was easy to get around in and had great little reasonably priced restaurants nearby. It was very easy to get off and on the freeways that go everywhere else in the city. There were a couple small negatives such as siren noise which was rare and never bothered us and also having to pay extra to park in the parking area under the building. Still, it was more convenient to park there and the extra $6 a night was worth it. We enjoyed the location of this hotel and the room was nice, comfortable, and large enough that it felt homelike even when we were were just staying in for the afternoon. It never felt cramped or made us feel like we'd go crazy if we just relaxed there. Would definitely go there again whenever I go to San Diego. I am amazed it only gets 2 stars because I would easily give it 4 stars.

We drove down to the harbor area and ate at Anthony's Seafood Grotto. Hadn't been there in 20 years when I used to live in San Diego, but it was still just as lovely, romantic, with great food and an awesome view at sunset.

Great Service, Nicely Remodeled

Good breakfast, nicely remodeled. Very friendly staff. Nice neighborhood (LGBT), with plenty of restaurants, bars & shopping within walking distance. It is across from a hospital, so there are sirens, but it never disturbed our sleep.

Not too bad.

Overall, it was a good hotel. The only bad thing was that it was noisy. You could hear people walking and talking in the hallways and the people walking around in the room upstairs.

Have someone in the hospital?

My husband had surgery at Scripps Hospital and was there for more than a week do to complications. It was close enough to walk to so I didn't have to pay the horendous parking fees. There are a lot of nice places to eat close by. I felt totally safe by myself. The room was large and very nicely furnished. I paid the same price as I did for a 4 star and was much more comfortable and relaxed.

Excellent Stay Excellent Getaway!

Visiting San Diego for a weekend of fun with a friend for his birthday. The hotel was wonderful, but it was definitely the staff that made it great! Everyone was so friendly and helpful; [...] at the Front Desk was fantastic! She went out of her way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. The room was very nice. It was clean and prepared for us everyday. We really liked the location as well. It was walking distance to restaurants, bars, and stores. It made it very convenient. The continental breakfast was also very convenient. The staff assistant at the breakfast was wonderful. She was colorful and friendly. It is nice to wake up to coffee and a smiling face. I would recommend this property to anyone and already have! Great job to all the staff at the Sommerset. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!

Good Central Location

The Summerset Suites was a good fit for our family of 5. We liked the living room suite, bedroom suite, kitchen and bathroom. The breakfast staff was very accommodating and did a great job meeting our needs. Parking was extremely tight and we paid $5 a night for the priviledge of wedging our full size car in and out of very tight parking spaces. Also no way to central air in the room meant we could not control temperature or air flow. Overall a good value.
