Trendy, new, but ok
Matt Dec 15, 2009
The hotel is fairly new and the building architecture and interior design are nice. The hotel staff from car to checkin/out ... are great, freidnly and treat everyone with top notch service. My only real complaints are: 1. my room was a little dirty (hardwood floors and there was dust accumilation enough that it was visible. If this is more apparent becuase of hardwood floors versus in other hotels with carpets, then its on the staff and also the business to afford more time, cleaning each room. and 2. the bathroom privacy (egads!!) where the "door" to the bathroom is really a semi-transparent glass that sits 2 to 4 inches away from the wall making gaps visible from the side... The bathroom privacy is the single most item which prevents me from recommending it.

I love the atmosphere and the neatness of this hotel. The Zen and relaxation connection were interesting. Only difficulty, my ... room was close to the swimming pool; it was too noisy but the staff was very comprehensive and found me another quiet room. I do recommend this hotel (maybe pricy for most of us) if you want to experience something new.

Javo Nov 17, 2009
This hotel is built w/ class and style but that is not always tied together w/ practicality and service. The showers are ... built for short people, I am 6'3 and everything felt short form the location of the shower head to the beds... I also had a bad experience w/ a dry clean service I requested for next day delivery and it made me get late to my meeting. Reason why was because the where over 30 min late to deliver for the expected time and the time notified on the service sheet. I was also ask way to much whenever I stepped in if I wanted to check in, when i already had a room, not to mention i was escorted to the floor level by the hotel manager almost like if i didn't belong there... All in all place is beautiful but lacks customer service and functionality.

Young and hip "in Crowd'
Active Couple Sep 23, 2009
beautiful - clean - and chic surroundings with excellent service and fun welcome beverage in the lounge. Rooms were nice but ... very small and tiny draweres and closet- barely enough room for 1 person's belongings. Seemed a perfect spot for couples under 40 without children. Party atmosphere at the pool bar - quite a hip crowd and fun to watch but not for swimming. Pool was an extension of the bar. we did not take advantage of the spa services but a disappointment that the spa did not include a jacuzzi or steam room. the location was perfect for walking to restaurants in the gaslamp district, shopping, the convention center, the ball game, the bay area.

Lepsik Aug 4, 2009
Nice hotel, great design, great location, good service. At about 5-6pm the pool becomes a night club, so you can't swim at ... night. Also, in the morning most beds around the pool have "reserved" signs. This is stupid, since no one's using them. Vallet parking is expensive. You can park across the street or couple blocks away twice cheaper.

Beauty Is Only Skin Deep
Sarah Jul 27, 2009
This new hotel is beautiful and chic, without a doubt...but it's missing the essential elements that really make a place ... comfortable. Our room did not have a dresser, any drawers in the bedside table, nor luggage racks. That means everything that couldn't be hung had to stay in our suitcases--on the floor! There were other basics missing from our room, as well, such as: * A bathtub (shower only) * Hooks on the bathroom walls for towels and robes * Grips, treads, and/or a handle bar to avoid slip and falls in the shower * A dry cleaning service or laundry bags * Hotel magazine or area guide book * And so on. It's almost as if they hired an interior designer who had never actually *stayed* in a hotel. The space was simply not functional. For a weekend trip, it was fine, but had I been there for business, I would have been seriously put out. Finally, although Se claims to be a 5-star hotel, they do not offer 5-star service. The staff is adequate and addresses customers' requests, but they do not go out of their way to make things special nor anticipate the needs of VIP guests. It simply isn't 5-star quality and, thus, is really not worth what it's charging per night.

July 4th weekend. The pool area and lounge is a scene to been scene, scene. Beautiful people all over including the staff. I ... don't normally stay at $400 a night hotels, but after staying here for several nights might start considering (especially when on sale). Everything fits into place and you really feel as if you are on vacation with no worries. Luxury defined at the Se. I am already planning another trip there.

Ultra chic hotel
kwhit Jun 30, 2009
We really enjoyed staying at the Se. The design is gorgeous, the location can't be beat for Gaslamp, and the staff were ... helpful and friendly. They have all kinds of amenities including a full service spa, restaurant, and two lounges (the uber lounge by the pool was our favorite).
Traveler type: Couples
The nightlife involved with the Se is especially amazing if you're 20-30 and interested in going out/dancing/drinks (try the spicy mojito!). If you want a quiet room, may we suggest one of the upper floors. Between the lower and uber lounges (on the ground and 4th floors) on the weekends it is a little noisy. Although a room on the 3rd floor is also right next to the spa.

Se San Diego - not bad
cc Jun 24, 2009
The Se is a hip and trendy hotel, like the Hard Rock down the street- but not quit there yet. The rooms are very small (like ... in Europre) but clean and poshly decked out. The service was either really good, or only OK- the room service people were great (got my food as soon as I hung up the phone). The front desk and housekeeping staff were less knowledgeable and seemed to need more training (ie. asked for extra conditioner, was brought shower gel, then brought shampoo, then finally conditioner). My biggest complaint is the noise- OMG, the noise. I did not have a restful night's sleep during my 3 night stay b/c i could hear every thing from the hallway and my neighbor's rooms- I think this is b/c the hotel is so small that all rooms are crammed together and the hallway is only about 2 feet wide. The only reason i ave this place 4 stars is b/c it is a nice looking hotel, in a good location, and meets what the Gaslamp is known for - hip party spot.
