Wonderful weekend.
I could not have asked for a better hotel. The rooms are large and bright. The staff very friendly from the reservation desk, bell man, consierge, and restaurant staff. Breakfast food delicious. I had a problem with the air conditioning in my room. Reported it and I did not have to ask for anything. I was assigned a new room and credit. Would stay here again. Pool open in winter since it was heated. Located next to Seaport Village, Gas lamp quarter, and convention center. The ball park was just 3 blocks from the hotel.

Nightlife tip:
Short walk from hotel
Numerous restaurants and stores just 3-6 blocks away. Did not use a car the entire weekend. If I needed one, there was a Hertz on site.

Beautiful setting, terrible hotel
The Marriot is situated near the marina with great vues, near the gaslight district. On the good, great pool, gym, and convenience store. On the bad, no hot water, shower has no water flow, the energy bulbs in the bathroom are too low in output, poor sound insulation, breakfst restaurant unable to handle the amount of guests, long waits, staff is nice but can't fix or solve any problems but they smile! Not a good luxury hotel with poor service and rooms, expensive parking and internet. Poor value for the money.

location, location, location!
I stayed here previously for a conference--the convention center is located in-house. We stayed here again because of the hotel's location--we could walk to nearby Seaport Village, the marina, the Midway, whale-watching, and enjoying "restaurant week" with all the amazing dining establishments nearby, especially in the Gaslamp District. The conference I attended previously was in August--my hubby walked to a Padres game at Petco Park while I did my work-related agenda. The San Diego Zoo and Sea World were 5 miles away. This time around (January) was a lot cooler (60 degrees in the daytime, 40 degrees at night) and not particularly beach/zoo appropriate sight seeing activities. My only complaint with the hotel was the price (I suppose everything is expensive however!) and something minor..... There was no fan in the bathroom. The door would not stay open, so I had to prop it open with a trash can to allow the steam to escape. Seems inconsequential, but it really irritated me over time where I felt almost claustrophobic.

Fabulous central location in Downtown SD!
I really loved this hotel. When we first checked in, we had been given a handicapped room because they assumed we preferred to be on the bay side of the hotel, which we didn't have a preference. I didn't like the way the shower was in the handicapped room, so we requested a change to a regular room on the city side. It was much better for us. Everything was super clean and nice. Granite countertops in the bathroom, large tile all over, the beds were nice and the pillows were nice and fluffy... there was a refrigerator in the room as well as a nice flat-screen TV. The only reason this hotel only gets 4 stars is because they should offer complimentary wi-fi in the rooms. 12.99 a day is too much per day for internet... in my opinion it should be complimentary. Also, the Tequila Bar and Grill is OK but the menu is very small and mostly only mexican fare, but it's ok if you are in a pinch and need quick food. The room service food is very good, fast, and friendly. The concierge service is fantastic, taxis are always available and waiting outside, restaurants and Horton Plaza (mall) are all within walking distance. I love this city and will be staying at this hotel again!

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
If you're from a city that doesn't have many public transit options like we are, take the time to learn about the San Diego transit system. The concierge was very helpful to teach us how it works and where we could take the rail and buses to. It was a money saver as opposed to taking taxis everywhere (only $5 a day - unlimited). Just be prepared to do a little walking and maybe a little waiting, but overall I'm glad we used the public transit for some of the places we wanted to go to. There is a rail station directly across the street on the front side of the hotel where you can purchase passes.

Would choose else where next time.
I stayed at this hotel several years back and had a great experience, not so this time. Housekeeping kept skipping my room and not re stocking the coffee bar, gym equipment in ill repair, loud neighbors - switched rooms and more loud neighbors. Someone puked in the doorway next to my room and they took all day to clean it up. They are slipping.

Not bad, but why so expensive
I don't see any special features in this hotel. Modern look, small rooms, cool staff, good location... But why they charge so much money for coffee in Starbucks and the parking (if you don't have a direct access from parking lot to a lobby in the south part).... Hint: Cheaper and convenient parking lot not far across a rail way.
