It's ok

The hotel is a revamped Motel 8. The rooms look as such with upgraded furniture. The bell desk wasn't very helpful when asking for information regarding shuttle services. [...]

Great location, excellent price

The best thing about this hotel was the location; walking distance to dining and entertainment. Also, was very close to airport and Marine Corp Recruit Depot; which was where I needed to go for my son's graduation from bootcamp. The price was very good as well. The room was smaller than I had anticipated and it was a little musty smelling but was clean. The TV is small and outdated and the remote did not work. Other than that, it was suitable for my needs.

good for the $$$

Right in Little Italy, rooms were a bit small but adaquate. Very friendly staff. There was a used bar of soap in the shower and the TV remote didn't work. You do have to ask for breakfast coupon to get your free meal which if it's free come on give it to you at check in. Resturant and bar are nice with friendly staff, i would probably stay there again.

Porto Vista Hotel Stay

This hotel is a remodeled Hotel 8. They did a rather good job re-styling it, but the room was small and the bathroom needed some updating (the shower head was full of water calcium buildup and had a hole in it). The staff including the valet personnel, were incredibly nice, very helpful and professional. Location is great, right near I-5, car rental, airport and near Little Italy. Unfortunately, the location gives way to younger people partying in Little Italy. My first two nights were wonderful, but the last night, the room beside me decided to party all night long. They woke me up at 12:30 a.m. and were still going strong at 2 a.m. I finally, had to call the front desk, who immediately sent a security guard. They did not listen to the guard and were still going strong when I had to get up at 3:30 a.m. for my flight - I only had two hours sleep due to these thoughtless, foul-mouthed, drunken people. Ultimately, this is not the hotel's fault, but I wish the security guard would have been more focused on respect of the other guests.

Great Family Getaway!

We planned our trip for San Diego so we could visit Sea World and the USS Midway. We recently purchased beach cruisers so we got this hotel based on its location. It was great! We were able to ride our bikes to the Midway the day we arrived. The next day we stopped at Old Town and had a meal before we headed to Sea World. I loved how everything was minutes away from this hotel. When we returned from Sea World we rode our bikes to a restaurant in Little Italy which was walking distance from the hotel. The last day we were in San Diego we rode our bikes to Gaslamp District. As for the room, it was nice but a little small compared to other hotels. We were hardly in the room so it didn't really matter to us. Overall this trip was well planned and we got to see and do a lot!

Not bad, not great.

This hotel is central to a lot of things like the gaslamp area and easy access to the 5 freeway so you can get anywhere quickly. It is a pretty nice place with large rooms (but don't expect the Ritz) and the hotel management was very helpful. Our one complaint was with the housekeeping crew. They would either come super late in the day or not come at all, leaving our room in need of some TLC after a few days. Otherwise, the price and location can't be beat.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

There is ONLY valet parking at this hotel at the outrageous price of $22 a day. I recommend using the surrounding street parking which gives you two hours free starting at 8am so as long as you are moved before 10AM, you're fine. This worked well for us since we were driving around and visiting other areas during the day time.

Good price, good location

Centrally located and a good value for the price. They'll throw in a free breakfast, if you sign in on their website (as opposed to Orbitz). Also comes with a complimentary drink at their bar with a great view of the harbor).

Livable

The room is very small, and internet access is poor. I have to go to Starbucks everyday just to send emails. Besides, I got a room in the first floor, so noisy in the morning! Every morning I was woken up by a bunch of noise! The location is good. Very convenient to go anywhere. Except this, it is only livable.
