Nice Hotel in Little Italy
This was my second stay at the Porto Vista. Great hotel and pretty reasonably priced for the area. Lots of good restaurants in Little Italy within walking distance. The restaurant/bar at the hotel is also quite nice.

A great Value
The Hotel is in the San Deigo downtown Little Italy area. Close to airport but I couldl not hear the planes with sliding door closed. A short walk to many eateries and to the waterfront also. The rate I got included a full American Breakfast it was great several choices (great view while eating and a heater if seated outside if needed). Rooms are new clean and one wall had a photo of 40's bathing suit models... That was a little strange but we laughed about it. The hotel offers a shuttle to local points of interest like the Zoo. We walked to catch an Amtrak train. We would stay again.

The staff was over the top friendly and helpful. I'm very picky about customer service and they all aced it. Great location for shopping, eating, and sightseeing. I would go back on a future trip.

San Diego Porto Vista
The hotel staff were excellent, the rooms cozy, and the atmosphere comfortable. Downside being if you didn't request the included breakfast tickets they didn't give them to you.

Great Place to stay for the Price
We were there for a convention. The price of the hotel was half of the price near the convention center. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was great because it was in the center of everything. We rented a car and went to La Jolla, Del Coronado, Old Town, and the Zoo. The hotel offers shuttle service to the convention center and zoo which saved us money on taxi. Another plus were the great restaurants in the area (little Italy). Overall, it was a great place to stay for the price!

Great Deal!
The location was great, we upgraded from the "cozy queen room" to the King room because we did not want to be located on the first floor as the doors opened out to the parking lot. The staff was friendly and the resturant had great views. The shuttle service was handy to/from the airport and attractions with a friendly driver. Overall great stay, good location and friendly service. This place is best if your planning to spend most of the trip out and about.

Better than expected
My girlfriend and I went to San Diego for the weekend, and we booked this hotel before reading some of the reviews online. After booking, I started doing more research and saw some pretty poor reviews, so I was a little worried about how things would be. This turned out to be a great hotel in a great location, with very good staff. When we checked in, the front desk informed us that there was an event on the top floor, and asked basically where we wanted our room. We chose the top floor still, and were pleasantly surprised by the deck/patio overlooking the harbor, and the open feel of the hotel as a whole. The room we had (a queen size bed) was larger than expected. Granted, it is not a huge room, but more than enough for two people to be comfortable in. The room was clean, and the hotel as a whole was clean. Complimentary breakfast is served each morning, and the selections are well above average, in my opinion. The location was AMAZING. Right next to Little Italy, and not far from the Gaslamp District. For the price, this was a perfect location. The hotel staff was helpful in answering questions about directions, and the valet service was quick and friendly. Overally, this was a great hotel.....if you are looking for a "resort" type setting, this is probably not for you. If, however, you are looking for a nice room, in a great location, with helpful staff, then I highly recommend this hotel.

Not As Good As It Gets
I was in San Diego for a wedding and stayed at Porta Vista based on the couple's recommendation. I'm pretty sure this was based on the hotel's location, which was close to an assortment of restaurants, shopping centers, etc. The website is mis-leading as to how the rooms and layout of the facility is structured (think Motel 6). There isn't a lobby surrounding the rooms. Step through the door and you're immediately outside. Although the bathroom was immaculate, the desk, chairs, and rugs were in need of TLC. I ended up moving 3 times before "settling". The staff was very accommdating, but obviously could only work with what they had. Lastly, the "free" continental breakfast was not adequate in portion size. In order to be full, one would have to "buy" additional items.

Short drive from hotel
A couple of malls were a short walk or drive away. A daily Farmers' market (except Sunday if I recall correctly) was just a few blocks away.

Decent Hotel for the Price
A good buy in a great Italian neighborhood. Not every thing worked upon arrival, but faults were taken care of when we reported them. Desk staff was great, helpful and attentive to our needs. Kenny on the desk was a great employee. Also, I thought I was paying for a suite with a balcony view. The room only had a king bed, wet bar, fridge and mirowave. No seating on the balcony and no view. The restaurant needs a little help. Food was good, but often served cold. Restaurant did not open on time and made me late for a couple early morning meetings. Also, lesser quality food was substituted as the week progressed (eg. bakery quality toast turned to grocery store style bread). Additionally, staffing was insufficient. An expample was when marilyn (best wait staff there) was swamped by 40 plus guests all by herself. Another late start to my day.
