Private luxury in Mission Bay with putting course
Tucked away on gentle Mission Bay next door to SeaWorld, this 44-acre island resort features comfortable, California bungalow-style rooms amidst lush, tropical gardens and lagoons. Explore one mile of beach, five swimming pools, and enjoy various amenities including tennis courts, an 18-hole putting course, beach cruisers, bonfire pits, and a private marina equipped with sailboats, jet skis, and kayaks. Dine at one of two waterfront venues, then relax and refresh with a signature Balinese massage at the plush spa. Secluded yet centrally located, the resort is minutes from top attractions including Old Town, the San Diego Zoo, and Gaslamp District.
Highlights
  • Private location in the heart of Mission Bay
  • 18-hole putting course
  • Relax in the sun on a white sand beach
  • Located just minutes from Sea World
Rooms

Paradise Point Resort & Spa offers 462 rooms, including 65 bayside suites. All accommodations are bungalow-style, meaning every guest gets a private patio, typically with a garden or bay view. Decor in Paradise Point's rooms is Balinese-influenced. Each room comes standard with a flat-screen TV, outdoor patio, MP3 docking station and an ironing board. High-speed Internet access is available (fees apply). Pets are welcome (fees apply).

Features

Resort accommodations don't get more private or exclusive than the Paradise Point Resort & Spa. The property is situated on its own island--a 44-acre rock in the middle of Mission Bay.

Guests receive complimentary access to a number of amenities when they stay, including the private white sand beach, five pools, a state-of-the-art fitness center and an 18-hole putting green (fees apply). The resort boasts a private marina with sailboats, jet skis and kayaks for rent (fees apply). The Spa recreates a number of treatments from Hawaii, Fiji, Bali and other exotic island destinations.

Five on-site restaurants offer dozens of choices for meals. Tidal, by far the fanciest, specializes in seafood. The other three eateries, Barefoot Bar & Grill, Caveman Pizza Company and Tropics Cantina, offer casual fare in a relaxed environment. After a full day, patrons unwind with drinks while taking in coastal views at Bayside Lounge.

Leaves a bit to desire

Hotel needs a makeover. It was a bit run down and funky. Did not supply us with bathrobes like it was supposed to. Found ants in the room. all in all it was a lovely location but otherwise needed some major updating. No amenities were free. Nickle and dimed you constantly for any of their amenities like bike riding, miniature golf, etc.

Extra Costs

Less value than expected. Did not like the extra charges. Be sure to find out - or try to find out - the charges for parking, internet access on their business center work station, etc.

Extras cost !

Like $32 to park your car ? Are you kidding ? Then $17 for Internet ? They ruined an otherwise great experience by gaffing you with extras! Everyday ! Front desk guy talks really fast ... Just beware it cost another $50 a day on top of the price you receive ....

Paradise Point is aptly Named

This is my second time staying at Paradise Point, it is a perfect place to stay while in San Diego. It is close to downtown and the beaches. The next time I am in San Diego I plan on staying there again.

Nice location.

On the plus side, the grounds are beautiful. The service staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. My appointment in the spa was the best I've experienced. On the minus side, they charged you for everything. They added on a manditory 20% gratuity for the spa visit. For TV it was $5-6 per show, $12-19 for a movie. Extra charges each day to use the fitness center and other amenities. The food in the bar was okay. There were ants in my room that devoured the midnight snack I left on the counter.

Pricey!

The hotel was fine and the staff was very nice but the prices for incedentals and meals was outrageous. I have traveled for years and don't mind paying a fare price for things but this hotel can be compared in price for food etc... to the high end hotels in Vegas back in the early 2000's. A basic manicure was $45(3 x's the price I pay at home, a standard breakfast was $20. I stayed here because I was traveling alone and I thought it would be safe, and it was just a little too pricey for what I got.

Adequate, not outstanding.

"Resort" is on a small beach on Mission Bay (not large) it is not on the Pacific Ocean. Adequate rooms, probably more to do than I engaged in (putt putt, spa, one restaurant) but overall, I would have preferred in hindsight to stay closer to downtown. Drive was about 15 minutes in traffic.

excellent quiet getaway

Location is somewhat isolated away from commercial shops, etc. but that is why I chose it. Not a good choice for those who like partying, noisy atmosphere, or close access to shopping. You need a car to get to commercial areas. Best for adults who want private, quiet, natural surroundings & a contemplative experience. You make your own entertainment or watch TV. Beach is easily accessible. Lush tropical landscaping, lovely pools & hot tubs, fabulous views, huge rooms. Did not go to Spa but prices for those services seemed pretty high. 2 restaurants. Ate at only one, Barefoot Grill. Great bay views from outside tables. Food was excellent & good value for moderate prices. Service was very friendly, helpful but not intrusive. Business center is a self-serve small room in a conference bldg on site. Machinery is from an outside contractor. Could not print anything out on either printer because system did not work & costly for the computer (there are 2), plus extra for the printed pages. There is a laptop hookup to print but instructions are not very good match to a new PC. That did not work, either. (I am very experienced with computers.) I had to call 2nd time to get refund then was told they would call me back to waste even more time. Hotel front desk people did not allow me to print anything elsewhere when told of the problems, although they do print boarding passes. This part was a real hassle, so if you need a full-service, staffed business center, this is not for you. Also, there is only one place, Island Market, to buy food other than the restaurants, snack bar at main pool and cafe in lobby. But, all they have is marshmallows, candy, and similar snack food. you cannot buy fruit, juice, sandwiches, milk, smoothies, etc. Bring your own lotions & toiletries. They had excellent quality shower gel, shampoo and conditioner but that was it, apart from bar soap.

Dining tip: In Hotel

If you want drinks, snacks, etc. but dont want minibar, bring your own. All the food was very high quality, well prepared, well plated and uniformly delicious. This was not spa food and portions were pretty generous though not excessive. Mai tais were excellent. If you are fine with somewhat limited selections, you will eat well without leaving the grounds.
