Was Expecting More

The location is amazing. On the far end of Shelter Island, right on the water. We got a handicap accessible room, which is great if you need it, but the low sink and lack of any shelving in the bathroom was quite inconvenient. The shower head was so high, I don't think a person with a disability would be able to reach it. $17 per day parking is outrageous, especially since there was no security or indoor parking. We never ate at the resort. I felt that $11 for a bowl of oatmeal was on the high side and the lunch dinner menu seemed more like fast food. The room was newly remodeled and the bed was comfortable. For the price, I would probably stay somewhere else. Don't forget to read the fine print about the parking fees!

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Head out of the hotel area to the beginning of Shelter Island for some very good restaurants. Much better value than at the hotel.

Need a complete makeover

The first night we arrived they had given our room away and so we stayed in a room with a rollout for my mother. Once we moved to the new room the view was perfect however, the sink in the room sank, the toilet blocked and flooded one day and every 2 days our room keys would cancel. On top of that they charge for parking which isn't included in the booking cost, $15 a day. The rooms were no better than staying at a 3 star hotel.

Shelter Island hideaway

This was our second stay and we will definitely be going back for a third. This is the perfect spot for the Big Bay boater, with a dock for guests the hotel is ideal. A beautiful setting in a beautiful city.

Anniversary Getaway

Was very disappointed with the room. Needed to be updated (rug, bedding, chair covers, drapes). Interior looks like a 70's hotel. Bathroom was large but tub was not suitable to showers. Very slippery. Not enough electric outlets. Rates do not reflect condition of room. Picked hotel because of location and past stays but would not again.

Clean and comfortable

Kona Kai is literally right on the water. Rooms and resort are exceptionally clean and comfortable however a bit outdated, especially the bathrooms. Cleanliness overshadowed need for updating. Pool is nice. Do have to pay $15 per night for parking which was unadvertised until arrival.

Incredible weekend!

Although this is not a modern upscale resort, it is comfortable, the food is great, the staff is friendly, the room was clean and comfortable, the pool was relaxing, I can't wait to come back.

The location sells itself

Very nice location & view of ocean. Needs updating though... Not even a flat screen. The rooms need to be updated but since it's a very wonderful location it is worth it.

Harbor view setting

You can 't get a better view and location in San Diego. The hotel is not too far from the airport. The grounds and hotel room were immaculate. My only "con" would be the distance to find stores and cheap restaurants neaby.

getaway

Location is fantastic. The room is decent. They could have made the beds better (ex. Thicker covers, more pillows). For the price though it was worth it i think.

Fairly close to the Gaslamp quarter, only a few minutes away by car, so that's pretty awesome.

Not bad

A decent hotel. Great location. The rest was just average - not for any fault of the management or staff, but it just doesn't feel like a special get-away spot - more like an average hotel you could find anywhere.
