Shelter Island hideaway

This was our second stay and we will definitely be going back for a third. This is the perfect spot for the Big Bay boater, with a dock for guests the hotel is ideal. A beautiful setting in a beautiful city.

Anniversary Getaway

Was very disappointed with the room. Needed to be updated (rug, bedding, chair covers, drapes). Interior looks like a 70's hotel. Bathroom was large but tub was not suitable to showers. Very slippery. Not enough electric outlets. Rates do not reflect condition of room. Picked hotel because of location and past stays but would not again.

Clean and comfortable

Kona Kai is literally right on the water. Rooms and resort are exceptionally clean and comfortable however a bit outdated, especially the bathrooms. Cleanliness overshadowed need for updating. Pool is nice. Do have to pay $15 per night for parking which was unadvertised until arrival.

Although this is not a modern upscale resort, it is comfortable, the food is great, the staff is friendly, the room was clean and comfortable, the pool was relaxing, I can't wait to come back.

The location sells itself

Very nice location & view of ocean. Needs updating though... Not even a flat screen. The rooms need to be updated but since it's a very wonderful location it is worth it.

Harbor view setting

You can 't get a better view and location in San Diego. The hotel is not too far from the airport. The grounds and hotel room were immaculate. My only "con" would be the distance to find stores and cheap restaurants neaby.

getaway

Location is fantastic. The room is decent. They could have made the beds better (ex. Thicker covers, more pillows). For the price though it was worth it i think.

Fairly close to the Gaslamp quarter, only a few minutes away by car, so that's pretty awesome.

Not bad

A decent hotel. Great location. The rest was just average - not for any fault of the management or staff, but it just doesn't feel like a special get-away spot - more like an average hotel you could find anywhere.

San Diego

Nice location, great view. Beds were not the best. It was a bit difficult to get in and out of the parking lot with a room key. Even though we paid for a late departure, housekeeping kept knocking on the doors.

Quick Overnighter

Had my fiance in town and needed to get away for the night. Wanted something near the bay but did not want to spend a ton of money. The Kona Kai was both. The room was clean and decorated with the Hawaiian Islands feel. The only thing I wish they had done differently was upgrade their TV's...come on guys those old *bleep* tubes are done!!!
