NOT a "Resort"
Not my definition of a "resort" foam pillows $15 per day for parking room service never answered the phone in room movie did not work and cost $16.99 we got a great room rate of $108; don't pay more than that because it is not worth it

Property is Aging
The Kona Kai is an aging hotel with great potential. The property needs an upgrade and the restaurant needs a new menu with better food and better preparation.

Great Location But just OK overall
The Kona Kai was nice, clean, and comfortable. For the price however, I would've expected that we wouldn't have to carry our own luggage up to the room on the second floor (no elevators). For anyone who doesn't necessarily travel light, this can be quite the task. The front desk attendant was a little strange as well. Besides that it was well maintained and had a fabulous location.

Secluded Getaway
The hotel was well-equipped, self-sufficient, and blessed with water views all around. I didn't expect the relative distance from town, but it's a nice quiet getaway.

Great views
The location was close to everything and I enjoyed having the view of the bay and downtown San Diego on one side and the Marina on the other side. Unfortunately, I was not able to take advantage of the dining room, spa or pool, as I did not spend much time at Kona Kai. Instead, I was kept busy sightseeing and working in town.

quiet & beautiful place for 2
only negative was parking in their lot cost extra $15/day. we parked on the street right next to the lot for free. great view of downtown. our room faced the ocean, but we couldn't see water from inside because we were on the ground floor. great location. within minutes of downtown, airport, & major attractions. all staff very friendly. we will stay here again if in the area.

Comfortable and relaxing
The Kona Kai staff made for an excellent trip. I was there on business and didn't have much time to play but the staff shuttled me to and from my conference with a smile on their face. The bartender was also a pleasure to meet and talk to. But the thing that made this trip was the spa services. I highly recommend this hotel if you come to San Diego!

Dining tip:
Long walk from hotel
Miguel's Mexican Restaurant was fantastic. Also, Umi Sushi was very good. Both are a long walk along the beach from the hotel.
