Not bad
A decent hotel. Great location. The rest was just average - not for any fault of the management or staff, but it just doesn't feel like a special get-away spot - more like an average hotel you could find anywhere.

San Diego, seagulls and sights.
Hotel, was fine! I felt a bit isolated on the grounds of hotel. We shared an a joining room with other family members. Quiet area, parking was an additional fee, and if you don't have a food voucher - breakfast at hotel pricey $$$, beautiful water view though, The family wanted to get to Balboa Park, we did and easy drive from Kona Kai Resort Hotel.

Getaway
Hotel was nice, staff was awesome but the room seemed a little cramped. 2 queen beds in a room that was made for maybe 1 king. view was outstanding, but they spring a $15.00 a day parking fee at check out which caught us off guard and we had some sort of winged ant or something under my sons covers and in the drawer.

fun getaway
The hotel is beautiful, located in a beautiful peninsula, we loved it that it was water front view and had a small playground that my kids could go to right in front of our room in a sandy strip. The view of the harbor was amazing. The room was small and had a funny smell, but the walls are thick enough where you can't hear the neighbors. So I think I would recommend this place, specially because it was such a bargain!

Money-saving tip:
Short drive from hotel
If you live close to San Diego county and are considering visiting the San diego Zoo, you might want to look into getting the year pass. You can save $ this way, because you can go to the Wild animal park too with this pass and it also comes with 2 free tickets to give away to the Zoo.(You'll be surprised at how the year pass doesn't cost that much more than the day pass)

Nice location, great view. Beds were not the best. It was a bit difficult to get in and out of the parking lot with a room key. Even though we paid for a late departure, housekeeping kept knocking on the doors.

Had my fiance in town and needed to get away for the night. Wanted something near the bay but did not want to spend a ton of money. The Kona Kai was both. The room was clean and decorated with the Hawaiian Islands feel. The only thing I wish they had done differently was upgrade their TV's...come on guys those old *bleep* tubes are done!!!
