Historic all-suite hotel near Balboa Park
Sitting on the edge of Balboa Park, the seven-story Park Manor is an independently owned, all-suite boutique hotel. The building itself dates back to 1926 and interior arches and moldings invoke a simpler time. Rooms are modern and spacious; even standard room measure 525 square feet. Guests receive complimentary continental breakfast in a penthouse dining room and two on-site restaurants--Inn at the Park and Top of the Park--offer very different dining experiences.Highlights
- Situated on the doorstep of Balboa Park
- Dine at two on-site restaurants
- Authentic turn-of-the-century décor
- Complimentary continental breakfast
Rooms
Park Manor Suites offers 75 suites varying in size with views of Balboa Park or San Diego Bay. Each room comes standard with a Sealy Posturepedic bed, antique furnishings and a cozy kitchenette. Guests receive complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access.
Features
The Park Manor was built in 1926 and has retained most of its grandeur and details from that era. Crown moldings line the ceilings of every room. Archways ring the lobby.
Despite these historic touches, the property is totally modern. Guests receive complimentary continental breakfast in a penthouse dining room and a complimentary bottle of water upon check-in. There's also free parking and free Wi-Fi. The hotel offers 24-hour laundry service (fees apply) as well.
Two on-site restaurants provide guests with eclectic dining options. Inn at the Park is a California-style bistro with a spacious outdoor patio and a lively piano bar. Top of the Park is more formal and is situated at the top of the hotel, where guests can savor panoramic views while they dine. The Top of the Park is only open for lunch.

All in all it was a good stay
The hotel was pretty nice. Only complaints would be the lack of wifi in the rooms and the road noise. Could hear sirens almost every night.

Historic Hotel
Inn at the Park is perfect for people who don't care for large, corporate hotels. Its been remodeled in the Hollywood Regency style. The staff are very personable and were genuinely interested in our experience while staying with them. The restaurant on the ground floor was a surprise with good food and live music. The hotel is a short walk to the park and Hillcrest.

Nice Place, Great Place Eventually
They are doing major renovations but we were assured they would locate us in one of their newly remodeled rooms as far from the construction as possible. The room was nice, more like a studio apartment with a kitchen, living room with a balcony with view of downtown and Mission Bay, a bedroom and nice bath. The major appliances weren't turned on yet in the kitchen but we ate out any way so it didn't matter. Staff was very helpful in arranging a nice flower arrangement and cold champaign in the room for our anniversary. Great location, walking distance to Balboa Park and on direct bus lines downtown. This will be a complete winner when construction is finished.

Not what I expected
This hotel was nothing like I thought I was paying for. Our room was never booked officially due to them not "receiving" they claimed . So instead of the King Studio that I booked online, we were put into a Queen Studio on the first floor facing the front street. The bed and pillows were highly uncomfortable. On the second night we were woken by hammering or banging at 7am in the morning from beneath our room. The package that we booked was for buy 2 get one night free. We were so unsatisfied and we just turned in our keys and stayed with a relative for the remainder of our stay.

A mixed bag
You couldn't ask for a better location when visiting San Diego's Zoo and Balboa Park. The Park Manor's history and setting are ideal. If weather's cold, as it was for us, the tiny radiators barely take the edge off of the aged building's chill. The dining room on the lower level offers amazing cuisine and live music, along with a door to the street allowing anyone access to elevators and all the floors. Not a secure feeling, to be sure.
