Historic San Diego hotel gives guest a glimpse of the past
Located in San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter, the Horton Grand Hotel is the modern incarnation of two Victorian hotels that opened in the late 1880s. The hotel's oak grand staircase, marble lobby and antique furnishings transport guests to the 19th century. Just steps from the San Diego Convention Center, the Horton Grand Hotel today delights guests with charming ambiance, friendly service and a fantastic location near Petco Park and the bars, restaurants and shopping of the Gaslamp Quarter.
Highlights
- Listed on the National Register of Historic Places
- Unique Victorian-style guest rooms feature hand-carved armoires, fireplaces
- Located in San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter
- New Orleans-style open-air courtyard

Rooms
Some of America's great historic figures -- Wyatt Earp, Babe Ruth and President Benjamin Harrison -- stayed at the original hotels that make up today's Horton Grand Hotel. Follow in their footsteps by staying in one of the hotel's 132 guest rooms and 24 grand rooms. City views and Victorian-inspired furnishings establish unmistakable sense of place. All rooms feature fireplaces, some have French doors that lead to private balconies overlooking the hotel courtyard. Wi-Fi Internet access is available (fees apply).
Features
After a long day of business or sightseeing, unwind with a drink at The Palace Bar at the Horton Grand Hotel. Be sure to stop by the front lobby and say hello to Sunshine, a life-size papier-mache horse from the saddle shop that previously occupied the building's ground floor.
Hit the Gaslamp Quarter, home to approximately 200 bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Just across the street from the Horton Grand Hotel, FLUXX nightclub has hosted an amazing roster of A-list celebrities. For something slightly more low-key, Cafe 222 is a great place for people watching over breakfast or lunch.

Great funky little hotel
Funky, quiet, small hotel in the heart of the Gaslight district, but very close (4 blocks) to the Convention Center. Late 19th century furnishings but perfectly up-to-date fixtures, electrics and wireless internet.

A beautiful and comfortable mansion
This hotel is like walking into a beautiful manision with people who enjoy their guests, smile and take care of them. It was a total delight to stay for even a few days...didn't want to leave. The location is perfect for Ole Town seekers, fun, zany concerts and unique restaurant seekers. The best part...a fireplace! What a wonderful touch to a victorian-themed and decorated hotel.

very good location
Beautiful Victorian style furniture and decorating but room was a little small and balcony we paid extra for was too small to use . the location was very central in Gas lamp district and close to many restaurants and shops . The Bellman was excellent and very helpful and stored our luggage before we could check in and after we checked out.

Great Location
The Horton Grand is just that....Grand. Keep in mind that this hotel is not one of the many mega hotels in the area that have everything from plasma tv's to spa treatments. This hotel is small in comparison, but makes upo for it with that like home feeling. The staff is great and more than friendly to help you with anything. The rooms are large and are very unique. The rooms all come with fire places....fire places. How many hotels can you stay in downtown that have a fire place for under $200 a night? Not many. The beds are comfy and the bathrooms are...bathrooms. Except for the toilet, it has an old time style pull down chain to flush the toilet...different, but kinda cool. If you want to stay at a hotel that is in a great location, reasonably priced, warm staff, and a place you will talk about to your friends after the stay...then the Horton Grand should be a choice for you. Hope this helps....

Great location
The Horton Grand was within walking distance of the ballpark and all Gaslamp restaurants. The room was small, as is the bathroom. However, there are lobby areas on each floor with sofas and chairs where you can sit with friends for a glass of wine (bring your own) before going out for the evening. Ask for a courtyard room if you don't want to hear the street noise on Avenue J below your balcony.

Good for short stay
The public areas of the Horton was very comfortable. It is a historic hotel that was demolished, then rebuilt using original molding, windows, etc. It really feels like an old hotel, but with modern amenities, like a gas fireplace (which didn't work in our room, but it was warm, so it didn't matter) and a TV behind the mirror above the fireplace. We were there only overnight before catching a plane, so didn't avail ourselves of the restaurants, lounge (which closed at 9:00 pm, a tad early), or anything other than the room. The room was comfortable, but small. It had very little place for clothes, and if we had been staying more than overnight it would have been very annoying. The worst was no closet, only an amoire, where you could only hang clothes verticaly, not horizontally, as in a regular closet. Even though we were only hanging clothes for the next morning, I found it irritating. Same for the bathroom, where they made the best of limited space, but it wouldn't have worked long term. I'm assuming other rooms were bigger, with better storage, and wonder if they assign rooms based on length of stay. The staff was pleasant, and the location great, on the edge of the gaslight district. I was concerned about noise, but it was not an issue.

One night only...
Comfy mattress, but they really need to do something about the sqeaky frames. It also bugged me that for the rates the rooms are priced at, you would at least think they could afford to have a mini frig...(not a good idea for left overs) More than one night stay is a bad idea. They were kiling me on the parking prices too...
