This hotel is amazing. The staff was very helpful every time we inquired about how to get to certain locations; and they even ... hand out rough maps to use. The location is wonderful, near two museums and within a few minutes of the Gaslamp Quarter (less than $10 taxi fare). The on-site restaurant Elephant and Castle had wonderful food. Room service was also excellent at the hotel, good wait time and good food too! Room was cozy and CLEAN. Our view of the harbor was increadible; we could see the cruise ships and the navy vessels pulling in. We usually stay at the Westin when we travel, but they are not usually worth the price so we switched to Holiday Inn... they are DEFINITELY worth the price!

Traffic can be a little bit of a nuisance, so just take a taxi to the Gaslamp Quarter, the fare is less than $10. Wear your walking shoes because it is spead out over a several blocks, and there's a big mall.

The room was nice, large and clean (other than carpet stains) along with average ammenities. I had a city view other than ... bay view (did not want to pay extra for that) and it was still nice. My complaint is that the walls were paper thin! Unfortunately both nights of my stay there was an individual in the room adjacent that was ill and I could here all the misery. Not too fun and made it hard to sleep.

[...] It's pretty old looking from the outside, but the interior (reception and guest rooms) are a bit more modern. The ... free airport shuttle is quick and convenient. Unfortunately, there was no hot water from my shower in the morning, even though I left it running for 15 mins. By the time the repair man arrived, I had already taken a cold shower and needed to leave on business. [...]

Great location, great price
Hawkeye Chick Sep 28, 2009
This was a couple's trip for sightseeing San Diego. The location was great for this purpose, right on the bay and close to ... many attractions. Right across from the cruise ship terminals, Maritime Museum, Aircraft carrier museum, Harbor Cruises and near Seaport Village. We did not even rent a car because either we were able to walk to the attraction, there was a Hotel Shuttle or a cab waiting outside the hotel to take us where ever we wanted to go. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The bathroom was slightly dated, but the rest of the room looked recently updated. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I would definitely stay here next time I am in San Diego.

Very nice - great staff
International traveler going national Aug 17, 2009
We traveled to SD mainly to see the Mets v. Padres 4-game series; some people said we could take the trolley, or a cab, or ... the bike-cabbies to the PETCO park, but we walked around and within 20-30 minutes found ourselves there. It's a nice walk all around the downtown area...a few things to keep in mind: A lot of places are only open around typical business hours (e.g. 8-6 or so). If you need snacks, there are plenty of 711, CVS and Rite Aid stores around. For those that want to go out, the historic Gaslamp district has many great restaurants, bars and clubs, that are hot starting on Wednesdays...and everyday has happy hour. Make sure, if you're going to relax, walk and sit by the bay, almost every spot is nice...but I loved the Park at the Park, right on K Street by the stadium it's so calm in the evening, some people may have their kids playing there, or may be walking their dogs, but that little hill is very peaceful! Of course, you can't miss taking the trolly and bus to the SD Zoo and Seaworld...

If you want a place to get rest and relaxation, this hotel is not for you. The walls were so thin it was like a sheet was put ... up to separate the rooms. We heard everything from a mother throwing F bombs to her kids, to a man snoring loudly, to 4 sisters drinking and complaining about their husbands. I mean we heard Everything!
