4 day trip

I found the location great, the knowledge of the employees good the hotel room that we had was good sized, but the beds were so bad we choose to sleep on the floor using the blankets for padding , the water pressure was terrible as well , if your looking for location or a one night stay its fine for the price but a 4 day stay

Fun weekend getaway

My hsuband and drove from Phoenix for a quick weekend to meet with our daughter and her family. We had a great time. The staff at the hotel were great and the room had a beautiful view of the harbor. It's an older property and could use some updates but room was comfortable and very clean.

business trip

Not bad, a cheaper price that other hotels directly downtown. Nearby several good restaurants (little italy, karl strauss brewery) and activities (zoo, baseball). Kind of loud at night due to cruise ships, boats, and the trains nearby. Great food and breakfast deal in the hotel restaurant.

eh

I checked in and received two room keys, one worked and one didn't. I brought the one that didn't work downstairs to change and they new one only partially worked (the light turned green but you could not open the door). I gave up with the keys. I went to take a shower in the morning and I could not get it to be very warm. I told the front desk and they had someone come in and fix it. When it was time to leave I wanted to take the shuttle to the airport. I was waiting outside since the doors to the shuttle were closed and the valet told me the shuttle would come around to pick me up in a few minutes. All of a sudden the shuttle took off never opening its doors for me to get on. I told the valet and he had to run after the shuttle for me. When the shuttle stopped there were actually other people waiting inside to catch the same shuttle. The hotel is conveniently located next to the cruise ship port but not as convenient to the rest of downtown.

quick business trip, nice location

Easy to locate and close to the airport. Nice location, we definitely checked out the Maritime "Museum" across the street (in quotes because it was way cooler than a museum. Walking through 5 ships, and the Russian sub was awesome!) Hotel parking was a bit pricey. But they did offer alternatives of street parking overnight for free. Bathroom door was a nice touch, fogged glass. And the room was nicely remodeled with comfy pillows. In fact I slept very well, no tossing and turning. Definitely good pillows.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Little Italy: Mama Mia's sandwich shop was AMAZING! I had the super-authentic salami sandwich and the dressing and home-made bread was perfection! Grab a sandy and drive over to Coronado Beach to enjoy the view, the sun and the food. Just don't forget to drive 25mph on the Island, cops are everywhere!

Cost vs intentions

Our experience here was that it was just an average hotel that did nothing to help you enjoy your stay. Where we can take part of the blame for not fully planning the activities we wanted to do. The hotel concierge and staff while slightly helpful for some things, really did not impress us with their information. We booked this particular hotel for several reasons: 1) The worst reviews of the place was concerning the noise from the trains and planes > this reviewer was very accurate>do not expect to sleep through this because it is extremely loud and we were on the back side of hotel from the noise> we did get used to it after a few nights and we were exhausted from the day's activities. However do not expect it any quieter at hotels in the immediate area. There are some right next to the train tracks that I am sure shake when the trains and cable cars go by, let alone the horns blowing. 2) Because it was to be in the Gas Lamp district and "technically" it is> what we discovered that it is only by drawn boundary> the actual Gas Lamp district is many blocks away and while the hotel offers a free shuttle there (another reason why we selected this one) the latest return trip is 7pm so if you planned on going out there you would either need to take a cab back or a cable car back (ends around midnight) 3) They were able to get a rental car for us through a local provider that ended up costing much more than cheap tickets>(we had to go this route as we did not know how long we would need the vehicle) then they only offered their parking at $23.00/night >There is another lot directly across the side street for $10/night > they do not tell you this> we found out after we returned the rental (after a few days) since it cost so much to drive and park anywhere. 4) the hotel had a bar/restaurant in the lobby> since we were staying super bowl weekend, we expected most bars would have specials> we asked our first day there and they told us directly that there was none> even the daily itinerary on the elevators listed nothing for SB Sunday (we really could not believe that) > we ended up going to the Gas lamp district via trolly rail and had a great time in a local brew pub. Bottom line do the research to find out what you can do and at what price before going. Public transportation is cheap ($5 for an all day pass) and accessible. While you can look for hotels along the trolly route, keep in mind that trains and trollies will be running into the night and if you plan to sleep early it will wake you up. Since this was a last minute business/etc. trip, we would return for just a vacation trip with much more planning.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Go to the nearest trolly ticket station and get a $5 day pass the first day you get there. Go on each different trolly to the ends and write down where you would want to revisit. Then take it again to go there. Lots to see and experience, never enough time.
