How can you NOT like this place
averagejoe Oct 2, 2009
This place is on prime real estate right on the harbor in downtown San Diego. This is one nice property. The Gaslamp District ... is only a 10 minute walk. The Midway air craft carrier is only a 10 minute walk. The Seaport Village shopping area is right outside the back down along with a nice little park called the Embarcadero. The staff was the nice..the room was spotless. There is nothing to complain about. It isn't the cheapest though.

Great Experience, Great Price
Always Satisfied in SD Aug 31, 2009
The 'Manchester' is a great hotel. Last time I stayed was 4 years ago and based on that experience and the great deal I ... scored on Orbitz, I stayed again. The dining options surrounding the hotel are endless. The recreation options are unlimited and entertainment? What can I say, Gas Lamp is right up the street, a quick 5 minute walk.
Traveler type: Friends
Forget the taking cabs to downtown, too expensive and take away from what downtown SD is. Take a walk and enjoy the people and culture of SD, I do every time.

Meets Expectations and Beyond
SRNA Gordon Aug 14, 2009
I have stayed at the Hyatt in Minneapolis, so I know quality comes with this hotel chain. The beds were very comfortable, but ... the pillows were hard. They really do 'nickel and dime' the customers, as there is a fee for every service. I recommend you go on the Hyatt website and apply for the 'gold card membership'. It is free, no strings attached, and you can print your membership as soon as you complete the application. Then, bring that with you at check-in, and they will apply it to your account, so the gym is free. Without the membership, the fee is $5.00 / day. Expect to pay at least $10.00/day internet should you want this service. I have heard they have free wifi in the lobby, but I did not haul my laptop down there to figure it out. I even had a small box delivered via UPS, and the hotel charged me $5.00 to pick it up! If you are going to the conference center, know it is a few LONG BLOCKS away. All of my female friends had blisters on their feet due to all of the walking in heels. You can take a cab for about $5.00 if you want to pay for it. The staff is amazing. Very kind. The pool is kind of small, but the pool area is very nice and comfortable. The lobby is huge and beautiful, and the restaurant in the lobby serves wonderful drinks. They have breakfast items a'la cart for sale, and they serve a limited menu at lunch and dinner that tastes good and the cost is reasonable. The concierge could use some work... I was told incorrect info a few times, and I felt like I was bothering them when I asked them questions. Be very specific about what you want from them! I would definately stay here again.

Sea World costs $65.00, and although I love marine life, it was a little too commercial for my taste. It also cost $25.00 each way by taxi to get there from the Hyatt. Best to go with kids unless you absolutely must see a killer whale in your lifetime and this is your only shot.

A fantastic Weekend Experience
Tom Jun 28, 2009
The hotel is great but the maids didn't move my closed pill containers from the bathroom sink and soaked them. The pills ... were unusable. This caused me to have to use an emergency medical service for refills. This may prevent me from further stays at this hotel. The desk, assistant manager, and checkout person didn't seem that interested.

The Grand Hyatt San Diego is an excellent hotel in a great location. On an overnight trip to watch the Red Bull Air Races I ... decided to stay at the Hyatt. The room was great with a great view of San Diego and San Diego Harbor. The staff was excellent, and the hotel is beautiful. The only negative is that the races are sort of a party weekend, and the 4th floor pool has a great observation point for the races. The crowd in the hotel was very young adults and there was a lot of partying. However at about 9pm on Saturday, all noise disappeared so I feel the hotel might have taken action. I would have called if it was later that night, but was glad when ever some one did slow the partying. I would stay there anytime.

Drove out to Pt. Loma, a great view of the bay and the city. This is a location with two lighthouses, a National Cemetery and a monument to Cabrillo. A good trip for someone who wants to see more of San Diego. The hotel is also very close to the USS Midway, an aircraft carrier museum: Petco Park the home park of the San Diego Padres: the Gaslamp District, a party type atmosphere: and other attractions all within walking distance. Enjoy

directly behind the hotel is harbor village....it looks like just some shops from the hotel but there are several really good restaurants back there and its right along the harbor. Also a pick up spot for the seal tour and the trolley tours which were an excellent way to see everything in San Diego on your own time! You hop on or hop off any where you like and explore....a trolley comes by each check point about every 20 minutes so you can pick and choose what you want to do.
