Meets your needs

We booked a partial golf course view. There was a very large tree right in front of the balcony & window. I called the front desk and the clerk stated the tree hadn't been trimmed in a few months but we where in a partial view room. Make no mistake even with trimming there was no way you could see even a small glimpse of the golf course. This room hasn't seen the golf course in years! Very disappointing since this was the three year in a row we have stayed there and we are hilton honors members.

Great place to stay

The location is about 20 min from downtown san Diego. On the other hand, there is a golf course on site! There is also a good short game practice facility, perfect for sand play, chipping and putting. The rooms are large, clean and with great balconies overlooking gardens. You can eat lunch or a simple but very good dinner on a deck overlooking part of the golf course! It is definitely quiet and away from the crowds of downtown. In terms of the rooms, the amenities, the staff, it is a fantastic value. This was the third time we have stayed there and loved it every time. It is on a par with places costing 2 to 3 times as much!

Not What I Expected

The price was right, with the exception of having to pay $10.00 PER NIGHT for parking...being under the impression there was a COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST until we got a bill set at our table for $29.00 for 2 breakfast buffets! Thank GOD my husband and I went ahead of the kids...and told them not to bother coming down! Jack in the Box across the street would have been a better choice! Not to mention that we were given a room on the bottom floor with a balcony and right in front of the parking lot that was totally perfect for all of us, including our little dog...until we heard the dreaded running footsteps of a toddler at 3am! Seriously? Who assigns upstairs rooms to customers with small children? So we requested to be moved to another room, which they were eager to do, however it was way in the back, UPSTAIRS and a long trek to get to and from the parking lot... Overall, wasn't impressed and will NOT be returning. For the location to where we were actually spending the majority of our time...it was not worth it!

Great bed, be prepared to pay for extras

The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. I was disappointed that a suburban hotel would charge for parking. I requested a microwave which was also charged to my room.

Doubletree San Diego

Doubletree was like the Doublemint of hotels, satisfactions that lasts and lasts. The location was north of downtown, less busy, and a golf resort. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the concierge and given two warmed, tasty, chocolate chip cookies. The room was spacious. Great to relax in, beyond simply using it for sleep. Electrical outlets abounded if you should need to charge anything. Access to beaches both near the city and north were within a 25-minute drive. Your schedule will not run dry with the amount of recreational activities. Beautiful Coronado island, where "Some Like it Hot" was filmed, can be accessed via driving over a massive bridge, or ferry. The only factor that would have improved the 4-star rating to five would have been having a continental breakfast included, and if it was a shade closer to downtown. If you want something in-house from the hotel as far as food or room service, you'll pay. But, this is quite a similar trait for hotel room service across the board. And, if a few extra miles won't deter you from nice everything else, this is the place for you! Very friendly, helpful staff.

Entertainment tip: Short drive from hotel

If you like guitars, music, woodworking, engineering, or simply learning, Taylor Guitar factory is a great place to visit. Free tours are given each weekday at 1pm, for free. Very informational and fun, should this appeal to you. Be careful, though...you might walk out with more than you came in with :)

Plain, but comfortable

Front desk service was excellent upon check-in, however, towards the end of our stay, when we discovered that there were problems with the internet connection in their internet lounge, the front desk person was unable to troubleshoot and did nothing to try to fix the problem. Rooms were clean, and comfortable. Nothing pretty to look at, aesthetically speaking, VERY plain. One giant painting in the entire room, almost made us feel like they were half way through decorating the room. Old fixtures, with some corrosion. Although there were no real problems with our stay, I must admit I was expecting something a little more spectacular, since we were staying at a resort. Okay recommendation.

Nice Place...

We really like this hotel for its cleanliness, large rooms and personable staff. There is a golf course right on the premises, so my husband and I were able to squeeze in 9 holes later in the afternoon during some downtime in our stay. Location is good also right near the freeway.

my timing was bad..

The timing was off. They were remodeling the main office. I just could not take the fumes. If I had known this I would have stayed some place else. Over all it was fine. I wish I had more time to have enjoyed things there. I went there for graduation and I did that.

Nice Hotel

We truly enjoyed our stay. The hotel was further from the sirport than we anticipated. It was almost 30 minutes. We were told it would be about 20 minutes. There is a big difference when you are traveling with screaming babies!! The resort was beautiful and lush. The grounds were well kept and the housekeeping staff was extremely helpful. We asked for early check-in, but they only had our room ready about 10 minutes early. Again, that was very inconvenient with babies in tow.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

There are lots of great eating places just across the 15. We spent a lot of our time eating over there because it was so close. It seems a little hidden, but just drive a little and you will find it.
