They are Renovating, Beware!
First of all, it's a mess now because they are renovating. The pool was out of order. The 'restaurant' is outside in a patio with tie- down sides. Our room was one of the renovated room, but it still had rust and mildew. We waited for hours in the lobby, and the staff keep telling us it will be ready soon. Not your usual Courtyard Marriott experience.

Avoid the Old Town Courtyard...
We've stayed in other Courtyard properties in the US, so had no concerns in booking the lower-tier brand in the Marriott family. We'd planned a last minute Labor Day Weekend trip to San Diego and are brand loyal to Marriott properties. We booked the Courtyard near Old Town as it was close to the freeway, downtown, and Old Town. The property's lobby and front parking spaces were polished and fresh. The parking structure, the elevators, the hallways, and the rooms appeared dated and poorly kept. The garage was filthy and messy. The elevator felt past its expiration date. The hallway carpets were shabby and the wall sconces were dingy. The light bulbs in the sconces were not uniform, so some were fitted with older incandescent bulbs casting yellow light, some "twisty-style" energy efficient bulbs casting white light, and some light bulbs burned out. The room smelled musty. The bathroom surfaces were dusty and grimy. There were dark stains inside the toilet bowl and the grout in the tile floors was funky colored. We didn't book this property for its view or amenities as we didn't expect to be in the room much. That said, there were dirty towels and cinder blocks outside our window. The desk and wooden furniture had the veneer missing in places. The lounge chair in the room was once a rose color, but now was more worn and oily looking. The lobby was the only area in which some aspect of the property didn't need some sort of repair or reconditioning.

Our hotel was in walking distance to Old Town San Diego which was nice,it was clean and nicely furnished but parking was $14! It also seemed not worth the $200 + that it cost to stay there. But we booked last minute so I was happy to stay in a hotel not a crummy motel.

Old Town Courtyard
The hotel location is excellent - walking distance to Old Town and quick drive to downtown SD, beaches, and other area attractions. Service staff was very friendly and helpful. I locked my keys out twice and they quickly solved the issue. The room itself (King bed) is much smaller than typical Courtyards. This may be because of the renovated building. There was also quite a bit of building noise (people in the halls, generators, and banging sounds) - the walls seem very thin.

Short drive from hotel
There is a small unmarked street that runs perpendicular to Jefferson st. This street has quick access to I-5 northbound and when coming back to the hotel off of Old Town Ave and Morris St.

The staff was very friendly courteous and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and were very pleased that we were allowed to check in early so that we could return our rental car. They were very helpful in getting us a cab when needed. The service in the hotel restaurant was very good.

"Wonderful location and price"
Check in was easy. The room was very clean and comfortable. The complimentary coffee in the lobby was great. I only wish there had been some danish or such to go with it. Parking was a bit difficult, as you have to search for free street parking or pay a sizeable fee to park in the garage.

Not worth the money
The hotel in my opinion did not meet the standards of a Marriott. I understand why the cost per night is between$169-$189 per nite. The hotel is located close to the airport. Overall experience terrible. Not clean, overpriced and noisy.

Not great location but courteous staff!
Good for a Courtyard but not in a very exciting location although proximity to Old Town area was nice. Fine hotel if you're not big on ambience or amenities.

Great place to stay for the price.
Great night's sleep before flying out of town in the early morning. Wonderful location in Old Town with a great meal at a local Italian restaurant.
