Catamaran Reort in Mission Beach

California Dreamin' Nov 29, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Super location - right on the bay and a block from the ocean. There is a great paved path along the bay (and a paved ... boardwalk along the ocean as well) that hosts joggers, walkers, skaters, etc. There is plenty of shopping and great restaurants within walking distance. Mission beach is a short drive to all local attractions so we really couldn't complain at all about the location. We went off season (first week in November) so traffic wasn't an issue but in the busy season, the bus that stops right outside the hotel would be a viable alternative to driving. The hotel grounds were pretty with a stream that was home to ducks, a swan, and a lot of koi. Our patio backed right up to the stream so the kids enjoyed morning visits from a couple of the resident ducks. Also entertaining were the talking parrots they keep on the grounds. The service, the ambiance and the food at the restaurant were all excellent. Like most hotel restaurants, a bit pricey for a family to make a habit of though. The rooms were kept clean but were somewhat dated...pretty much my only negative comment. The pool area was nice and we met some great people just hanging out in the large whirlpool. Off the pool area is a pretty well-stocked game room for the kids.Overall, it was a pleasant experience [...]

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Drive

The highlight of the trip for my kids (12 and 13 years old) was kayaking in the caves in La Jolla and swimming with the sharks - all part of the same guided tour. I enjoyed the Old Town Trolley tour - it's a hop-on/hop-off tour that gives a great overview of the city and its attractions. Great Mexican food and margarita's in old town too!

Traveling for my gymnast Nov 17, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Overall the visit was great. The service was friendly and the check in process was effortless. The location was amazing, ... centered right between the bay and the beach. The room was very quiet and the beds were extremely comfortable. The only negative aspects of the visit was that parking was $13 in spite of there being plenty of spaces available in the parking structure. Also, we had a suite with a kitchen. The suite was very nice but the kitchen was a little dated and it was not very well stocked. I highly recommend bringing some paper towels or napkins, since there were none in the room, as well as a non-stick pan if you are used to cooking with them. I had difficulty using the pans that were provided. But it did offer me the opportunity to cook some meals which was great.

a good weekend get away

location was excellent for walking to the beach and the bay. many small restaurants very close in walking distance. the free ... boat ride around the bay was fun. the staff was very courteous and the concierge had very good suggestions for dining, coffee houses and places to visit in the area. the on site dining was disappointing in that there was only the one main restaurant which didn't have much for small meals for a quick bite to eat. can't beatthe location for access to many things to do and the view from the tower's room was great.

CaTake a short walk to a restaurant on Pacific Beach called World Famous. The food is wonderful. Make reservations on a weekend, as it can be a long wait. Great seafood. Went kayaking at the caves in La Jolla caves, fun. About $80 for a double. Saw a lot of seals on nearby beach. Torrey Pines State Park is beautiful also, with scenery as good as Hawaii. Lots of fun trails there.

We have been guests at the Catamaran several times over the years. We love the hotel location and the amenities of the ... property. We took several tours of SD sites, which the hotel assisted in arranging. We had a great time! One small disappointment: the Catamaran website indicated that the stay would include a complimentary breakfast each day. None of the staff seemed to know anything about this nor did they offer to look into the matter. We will definitely continue to consider the Catamaran for our future San Diego visits.

Best Resort Location for the Price!

Dan & Sherry Oct 18, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We found the location to be excellent. We were able to see the bay, the ocean and beautiful garden area from our room. The ... rooms were very clean and the staff was very nice. Garden, ocean and pool areas were wonderful. The only concern we had were to how the dishware was being cleaned as to there was no dish soap and the dishes were being cleaned and put away however we found the to still be dirty.

A little slice of heaven

Zhanna My Angel Wife Oct 12, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

My motivation in my selection was my wife. I went to work everyday while she explored the area. She has only been in the USA ... for 5 months (from the Ukraine)and enjoyed talking to the birds and ALL of the plants in the garden area. The staff took good care of her, Thank you......

"Most Amazing in San Diego"

3bizz[@] Oct 9, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We loved the hotel! The view was amazing! I upgraded to the tower to get the view I had and it was worth every penny. We ... relaxed at the pool everyday and it was so relaxing. We traveled to other parts of CA and this is far the the best place to stay

Money savers tip, Short Walk

If you get a studio ralphs is a short walk down the road, and there is a farmer's market on Saturday mornings.

Money savers tip

Ralph's is only a few blocks away. We purchased some items for dinner and breakfast there and were able to save quite a bit of money by not eating out.

Dining tip, Short Walk

World Famous Restaurant practically across the street. Monday nights during football season all appetizers were 50% off. Not just your typical wings/nachos either. We had seared ahi, oysters, and scallops. Amazing!

Dining tip, Short Walk

CaTake a short walk to a restaurant on Pacific Beach called World Famous. The food is wonderful. Make reservations on a weekend, as it can be a long wait. Great seafood. Went kayaking at the caves in La Jolla caves, fun. About $80 for a double. Saw a lot of seals on nearby beach. Torrey Pines State Park is beautiful also, with scenery as good as Hawaii. Lots of fun trails there.

--Emma, Indiana Oct 29, 2009

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Drive

Drive up Highway 101 and enjoy the surf, sand and seals.

--Clearspring, Greenwood, IN Oct 26, 2009

The birds and water features were wonderful. Fantastic views, extremely beautiful.

Dining tip, Short Walk

Check out Tony Romas for dinner. We went there twice. Food is excellent and not expensive!! Also Burger King two blocks down the street for a quick lunch or if you are on the run. Ralphs Grocery Store was also helpful to us. We bought breakfast foods for room to save money and to get us out the door qucker. Going out to breakfast takes soo much time when there is so much to do!!!

--Rick and Wanda, Baltimore, Maryland Sep 26, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Drive

T-shirt Frenzy at Belmont Park is a great place to buy customized tshirts and hoodies. They also have other great souveniers and the staff is awesome!

--Dreamin of Mission Beach, Salt Lake city, Ut Sep 13, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

World Famous is the best.

--Thong, Bakersfield, CA Sep 5, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

It's a short walk to the pacific beach side from the hotel and there are plenty of good places to eat and hang out there.

--Jay, Cincinnati Sep 2, 2009

Nightlife tip, Long Walk

Plenty of restaurants, bars and clubs, start at about two blocks from hotel and go to a couple miles.

--Slob, Midland, TX Aug 11, 2009

Dining tip, Short Drive

Lots of great dining choices.

--SanDiego Lover, Salem, Utah Aug 8, 2009

Recreation/Attractions tip, Short Walk

IHOP a block down the street for cheap breakfast! And Tony Romas for the larger meal across the street. Everything in walking distance. Even one place had a guitar hero contest while we were there and my son won few food certificates.

--Happy Camper from AZ, Arizona desert Jul 28, 2009

Time savers tip

I would rent a car if you plan on staying here while taking in the other activities San Diego has to offer.

Public transportation was a breeze and very organized.
