Nice enough for a long weekend

The Catamaran was in a nice location. The rooms were clean, but there was alot of outside noise. We stayed in the tower and had a great view. The grounds were lush and well kept. We did not eat at the hotel or try the spa services because they were too expensive. We were only a block off the ocean, and spent our mornings walking the beach walk. We were glad we had a rental car to get around town and to visit the various attractions. It was a good place to stay for a long weekend.

        Vacation

The staff was great, very friendly and helpful, maid service exceptional. Hotel was very noisy, adults coming home in the middle of the night and sitting drunk and loud out on their patios for hours. Music playing by pool at 0700 didn't help either. We are tired! Pretty hotel and location has easy access to everything.

        Nice weekend getaway.

The hotel was nice. The rooms were a bit dated. The staff was very friendly, but did not know much about the area and we didn't find anyone able to answer basic questions. (i.e. Can you recommend a good seafood restaurant?)

        Great location! Close to everything...

Stayed in a double-bed studio. Nice with the kitchen, microwave & fridge. View wasn't the greatest. 3rd floor facing the parking garage. Tried to upgrade, but they didn't have anything available. If staying in the tower, I recommend 4th floor or higher for a nicer view. Location of this hotel was the BEST! The only other downside was the bathtub wouldn't drain, the toilet would run, and the hot water ran out quickly, but nothing major that wouldn't make us stay again.

        Nice stay in San Diego

We had a great time in San Diego. Catamaran needs to upgrade the decor in the rooms (kind of old-style) and our king-sized bed was "uneven". The staff was extremely courteous and friendly, but overall, the hotel rated only a 3 star with us

        Hotel is Okay

The hotel is okay for the price. It's toward the end of the strip for Pacific Beach. Its within walking distance to a lot of restaurants/bars. Reception wasn't too friendly, and rooms were just average at best.

        My Stay at the Catamaran

We picked a Garden View room when we booked the hotel, however the hotel was full when we got there and ended up getting a room in the tower. Our room location was terrible. It was right opposite the elevator so heard footsteps and elevator chimes all night long. The worst part is that the tower is right opposite the multi-level garage so we heard car alarms going off all night. Another problem the multi-level parking does not have an elevator so hopefully you arent travelling too heavy. The room however was extremely clean and gets a full 5 stars. The most beautiful part of the hotel is the lobby, which looks like a rain forest.

        Old school but good location

Great location just on the border of Mission Beach and Pacific Beach neighborhoods. Walking distance to breakfast places, bike rentals and the beach. Pool was average but good for the kids who needed to use up some energy. You could choose the bay side (calm water) or the beach (more lively) with its great people watching. Hotel rooms themselves were older and more dated. Could use a modern overhaul and power cleaning. The spa/fitness center looked like it was much newer. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Time-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

When heading out of the neighborhood, take Pacific Beach Blvd (on north side of hotel) to Riviera Rd which connects to Highway 8 East and then 5 North or South. Avoid taking Mission Beach Rd -- slow and lots of stops.

        Nice, not thrilling

It was a nice location on Mission Bay, but apparently there are no water front rooms with a king size bed--at least that's what we were told. The bar and restaurant staff was very friendly and helpful, but the front desk staff could have done more for our stay. I called twice before our stay to see if something special could be done since this was a surprise getaway for my husband's 40th birthday, but nothing was offered. (We've received cheese trays and wine at other hotels during special occasions.) Also, there was no indication on the website (or even at check in) that appointments at the spa should really be made at least two weeks in advance. It wasn't a terrible place to stay--it was clean, close to the beach and the bay--but it wasn't special enough for us to stay again.
