Great place
We stayed two nights at Britt Scripps just before Christmas. The period stying of the room was wonderful. Staff members were friendly and helpful. Parking was no problem--while we could have parked in back, we chose across the street for flexibility. We loved being within two blocks of Balboa Park. Breakfast was excellent--several choices, lots of food, pleasant dining room. We'd readily return the next time we come to San Diego.

Showing its age
The hotel was overall interesting, but the "breakfast aspect" of this bed and breakfast needs a lot of work. Pros: + Interestingly decorated room. + Comfortable bed. + Well stocked bathroom. + Free Wifi, and one free bottled water. + Nice snacks/wine at 5-7 PM every day. + Free parking. Cons: - The hotel hardware (doorknobs, etc) need some maintenance. The doorknob fell off the front door in my hand, and the toilet flusher broke on the first flush. The front gate was also pretty difficult to open. - The Wifi stopped working and was refusing connections after the first day. - The breakfast was pretty bad actually. My girlfriend's eggs were salt-bombed, and breakfast service took over an hour (!) after we were seated. They really need to send the hotel staff to hospitality school as this was unacceptable. - The age of the building and its 124-year-old insulation means you can hear every lewd detail of the upstairs guests humping at 4 AM which was sort of jarring. Unless you're into that type of thing. Overall it was an interesting experience, but probably not worth the high price compared to much cheaper chain competitors with superior service. You're paying for the mansion setting here and that's about it.

Excellent Authentic Inn
The Britt Scripps has set a new standard of lodging for me. the accommodations were superb, and the Inn was authentically Victorian floor to ceiling. Everything was tastefully done yet functional. Bathrooms were spotless and equipped with up-to-date fixtures, showers, etc. Linens were crisp and clean; towels were plush and fluffy. The garden area was beautiful and quiet, and a perfect get-away from the rest of the world. Breakfast was fantastic! Scones were "to die for" and served with fresh fruit and real whipped cream. Granola was home-ade and served with yogurt and fresh fruit. I had an omelet the following morning, and it was delicious - served with yummy fried potatoes. The service was great, and all staff members were very helpful and friendly. I would recommend this lodging to anyone who visits the San Diego area.

Great location
Great location within walking distance to Balboa Park museums, restaurants, zoo. Under the airport flight path and near a hospital made for more noise than we like.

Great House
The large room Garden Room) and bathroom met or exceeded our expectations for a relaxing getaway weekend. The large very comfortable bed in the quiet location made for restful sleep. We are walkers and enjoyed the fact we had little need for the car once there--Downtown San Diego, the Gaslight District, and Balboa Park were all within reasonable walking distance. Reading the morning paper in the rear garden was pleasant and relaxing, as was sitting on the covered porch out of the afternoon sun. The only glitch was upon check-in. We had notified staff to expect us at 6:00pm, but heavy traffic put us over an hour behind schedule. We arribed frustrated , tired, and hot and were really looking foreward to the afternoon wine, which is scheduled from 5;00-7:00 p.m. When my wife mentioned at check-in how ready we were for the wine, the attendant replied "Too bad, I just put it away!" A little more flexibility in the interest of customer service would go a long way--perhaps holding a small plate and a drink for late check-ins? Indoor seating for breakfast is limited and there can be a 15-20 min wait when the inn is full--just plan ahead. Other than this less than glorious start, we would rate this experience on a par of the better B&Bs where we have stayed.

Short walk from hotel
On arrival, we were ready for a nice meal and intro to San Diego, but needed tiem to get our bearings. We called a few days in advance of our arrivl and the recertionist recommended Mr. A's, jsst across the street from the hotel. It was extremely convenient and a wonderful experience, with delightful food, a fantastic view of the city and harbor, and very attentive service. A nice welcome to the city. [...] was a stsndout on staff, with her perky personality and cooperative, helpful spirit.

All I can say is I made the right choice for getting away at the last moment the staff was the best, the accomodations were out of this world and I would highly tell all my friends and family to go and stay there and if you book in advance you'll have a choice of different rooms to chose from if you like victorian atmosphere.
