Wonderful San Diego beach vacation

Beach Haven Inn was located within sight and sound of the waves rolling in on the beach. We were on a tight budget and had booked the single room with 2 queen beds. The wonderful, friendly, helpful staff offered us an upgrade with a fully equipped kitchen including dishes, cookware and utinsels, breakfast area, living room, and separate bedroom with a King size bed at a super price that we could afford so we accepted the offer. That upgrade made all the difference to the enjoyment of our vacation in San Diego. While the hotel is not new and modern, it was clean and comfortable and had every thing we needed for a great beach vacation. A previous reviewer made reference to plastic mattress covers. We did not encounter any in either room we had. The swimming pool was sparkling clean and as very few guests were making use of it, we had the pool and the spa mostly to ourselves. Coffee and tea provided gratis at the front desk. As we had a kitchen we provided for our own, more private and more enjoyable breakfast. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is conveniently located, not only to the beaches but also La Jolla, Mission Bay and the main highways and freeways into downtown, old town, Little Italy, the gas lamp district, the airport, the harbors, Balboa park and the San Diego Zoo. We will definitely stay at this hotel on subsequent trips to San Diego.

Great friendly staff!

First room we had was close to a bunch of noisy neighbors and was not that clean. I talked to the manager and he bent over backwards to accomodate us. He even gave us two rooms for the same price. The second rooms were completely opposite of the first. Quiet and clean. We had a very nice experience there.

bare bones but clean and friendly

Hotel is in a great location, close to ocean, restaurants and activities. Hotel staff was very helpful and pleasant to deal with. Hotel is older and the walls paper thin, very noisy. Nice clean pool and room. Could use some paint in bathroom but it was clean. For the money, ok deal.

Disgruntled by the Staff

All great but one thing

I as well the people who came with me loved the place. It had everything we expected and was walking distance to everywhere we wanted to be,but we all agreed the male working the front counter on Dec 12 and 13, 2009 during the day was not hospitable. My sister went to register her car so it would not get towed from the parking lot and he accused us of having more people in the room than we had said. Then when my other friend who did not book through orbits went to check out who was also staying at the hotel with his pregnant wife, they accused them of having more than the two of them in the room. They did not realize we were visiting eachother from room to room and made accusations without first asking questions.I beleive the man at the desk was very rude and discourtious and only because of him was our stay unplesant. I beleive the rest of the staff and amenaties were as explained but if you have to deal with him beware of acusations and rude remarks.

A nice stay

It was just the night, but it was in a good location, not too far from downtown La Jolla. Went to Alfonso's for a mean maragarita and checked out the seals on the beach.

Good location for the price

Fairly nice motel, a bit noisy because it is right on a busy road, but Pacific Beach and Crystal Pier is within walknig distance. I booked 2 queens but got upgraded to a junior suite, which had a kitchen. Hot tub was nice and the room had a large flat screen tv. Good value for money

Basic, but good bang 4 bucks

The hotel definitely served it's purpose. We didn't go to pacific beach for cable tv and a free breakfast buffet. The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly, and you really couldn't beat the location. My biggest complaint is that there was no fitness area, and that the bathrooms didn't have a ventilation system (definitely a problem when sharing 2 bathrooms between 5 men). All in all, a good decision... I'd def do it again.

Excellent location

Front desk staff (owner?) could use some people skills...not very friendly, happy or smiling, just matter-of-fact. Facility must have been wonderful when new, now it needs some TLC. It's very close to where my relatives live but next trip I will check out some of the other hotels very close by before making another reservation for this one. When asked how our stay was as we were leaving, I commented that it was rather noisy (ice machine right outside). He made no comment, just kept on completing the check-out.

Not what I expected.

The room was very uncomfortable, plastic covers on the mattresses was a little unnerving and the bottom sheet was actually a top sheet so it kept coming off the mattress. The location was pretty good just one block off the beach. The pool was clean and pool deck area was nice but the room jaded the whole experience.
