BEST WESTERN PLUS Island Palms Hotel & Marina

The Best Western Island Palms is a beautiful hotel that is centrally located--minutes away from downtown, the Gaslamp District, La Jolla and many other destinations. The rooms were very clean and the view from the 3rd floor marina rooms was fantastic! Danny at the front desk was so helpful and upgraded our room. Everyone we dealt with from the hotel was fantastic and the food at the restaurant was very good. We will stay here every time we go to San Diego!!!

Don't have a yacht? Island Palms Best Western is the next best thing. The view from the pool was of a forest of masts. When night fell, the sailboats lighted up in the spirit of the season. Shelter Island felt like "a world away" from the urban center.

When I travel to San Diego, I prefer to stay on the Bay in the Point Loma Area. I chose this hotel based on location and amenities. I needed an airport shuttle for my return to the airport. I like a fitness center, pool, hot tub and refridgerator. They have two pools and two hot tubs, there is also a nice fireplace at one of the pools. The pools are heated and the hot tubs are hot! The fitness center is nice, but cardio only (no weights). The restaurant on site is excellent and not overpriced. They even have happy hour with half priced appetizers! The hotel is very clean and the staff is great. We upgraded to a suite and I loved the fact that there is a door you can shut that seperates the living room and bedroom area. Both areas have nice tvs. The beds are very comfortable and there are plenty of extra pillows and blankets. Nice views of the bay and easy access to walking paths.

I was in town on business for only 24 hours but am glad I picked this hotel. They picked me up from the airport, connected me with a rental car place and I never had to leave the hotel. I was able to order take out from their restaurant and it was delicious! The view from the pool/spa area was gorgeous. The room was large, clean and comfortable. I would definitely reccomend this hotel to anyone and I would stay there again if I ever go back to San Diego. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

I loved it ....loved the view...loved the pools ...loved the jaccuzzies ....just loved the experience .........it was what I needed ... loved the free parking ...I just wish it came with breakfast....

We took our 2 year old for 5 nights. I picked this hotel because of the free parking and free wifi. It turns out the hotel is on a shelter island and most of the island is a park. The location very close to the airport, sea world, and about a 10 minute easy drive from downtown and the zoo. Our casa marina room overlooked the bay and a navy base on the other side of the water. This meant front row seats to watch helicopters, jets, ships, and even a few dolphins. The kicker was the playground directly across the street. We could let our child run around for an hour or 2 and he would wear himself out just in time for bed. If they had free breakfast, this place would be perfect.

This was our first time weekend getaway and we stayed at the casa del mar, which is the newer addition of the best western palms hotel and marina. The building and room was very clean, new looking, and smelled good. We got a room on the 3rd floor with a bayside view, which was totally worth the upgrade. Our room was very spacious, with a flat screen TV, microwave, fridge, and coffee maker. The bed was a little hard/stiff. If you are going to stay here, having a car is a must, since it is quite a ways away from downtown and many of the attractions. Parking was never a problem; there is plenty of space. The hotel restaurant is okay but the food is a little pricey. Pools and hot tubs was nice.

I would highly recomend this htoel if you are going to San Diego. We were there for 7 days and had a great stay. the rooms were big, we had a great view and they were very clean. The hotel is located on Shelter Island so you are away from the real busy areas but yet close enough to everything that you would want to see and do. There was a great lobby between the two wings my sister and husband stayed in and my husband and I which was a nice lounge area with a good size table for playing cards. It was a very relaxing vacation and I would definately recommend it to every one. I know when I go back to San Diego I will stay there again.
