Super cute and clean for the gardening fan
Booked my room based on several factors. I was looking for a hotel in Dontown San Diego that had parking, breakfast and in room amenities like fridge, etc. Thought the pictues posted online looked cozy and added a homey feel to the property. All my needs were met. Hotel parking was only $10/day--way better than the $20-40 other, larger hotels were charging. Free Continental breakfast was mostly ready at 6am--great becasue I was in SD for a race and wanted to get some food in me before I went to the start line. Most hotels have breakfast at 7am, so pleased to find out I could take advantage of the food. Staff were friendly at check-in and saw them sweeping the courtyard/parking lot to keep it immaculate. Room was what you would expect for a Best Western of that age and size, but my friend and I had plenty of room. The room looked recently refurbished with clean carpet and newish bedding and the (small) bathroom had new tile, fixtures, glass shower and rainfall showerhead and good water pressure. Location is just north of the GasLamp district, so you get a great short walk to restaurants/nightlife without having to be disturbed by traffic and revelers in the wee hours of the morning. Best surprise feature was all the plants in pots and planters around the courtyard. My friend, a gardener, was speechless at the size, variety and colorfulness of all the plants. If you have ever stayed in a hotel with dead palms or bushes in the planters and felt depressed because of it,you will certainly appreciate all the flowers and succulents around the offices and rooms. Also a small viewing deck on top of the roof with more plants for meditation and quiet time. Would definitely stay here again!

Short walk from hotel
If you are traveling with tween or teenage girls or just like fun jewelry, visit the So Good jewelry store on 6th Ave in the GasLamp. Store is bursting with fun, shiny, inexpensive jewelry (much on sale at 30-50% off) and the walls are covered in pink polka dot taffeta. Would be a great place to buy bridal party gifts or fun souvenirs other than mugs, t-shirts and othe SD branded items.

Could be better and/or cheaper
Staff were friendly and very helpful and always available. Location is good - easy walk to downtown and Convention Centre. Quiet. Breakfast good self serve - adequate though room a bit crowded at times. the room is spacious except for the bathroom which is small with NO counter space. Clean and well cared for. Overall my only complaint is that this hotel is overpriced for what it offers. At 30% less - I would heartily recommend it for the cost conscious traveler who still wants basic comfort and good service.

Small, but friendly
The rooms are quite "cozy" (a wee bit tight & small, especially the bathrooms), however the staff is quite friendly and accomodating. We were surprised to find no fan in the tiny bathroom, as the opening of the equally tiny window was not terribly efficient in clearing out the dampness of the shower. The room was clean, if compact. The walls were the traditionally non-soundproof type. The complimentary breakfast was unexpected hearty & replete with enough choices to please most any tastes. The grounds and roof garden are pleasant respites of green in the midst of a cityscape- a succulent lovers haven! The small fridge was nice to have, and the small market across the street made for a handy(if overpriced) snack/wine/essentials run.Parking was $10/day, which compared to other locations is low, but really--there should be no charge to guests for parking in the Inn lot--perhaps it would seem friendlier to add a couple dollars to the room price, and not charge separate for prkng.

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
Many attractions & good dining are close by car, just keep all the one-way streets in mind when planning routes. Parking is as difficult as anywhere, so keep change for the meters in the public lots as they have not seemed to progress to the central pay station where you can use a credit or prepaid card. You could get caught unaware and miss some fun. There are lots of lots which will validate witha purchase as well, and meters don't always need to be fed in the evening, but there are no signs to let the uninitiated traveler know that.

A nice, clean hotel
The hotel was very clean, has an interesting vibe (tons of trees and palnts, almost felt tropical) and was well located. Breakfast for the money was quite nice. Basically a motel in the heart of San Diego. Parking was charged at $10, yet not revealed in the upfront ([...] hotel description).

Short walk from hotel
There are some really decent restaurants in the gaslight district - just be leary that walking home you may encounter people strung out or really loud and drunk. Good to walk from the hotel for dinner and take a cab back

Very Pleased
Very cute hotel, clean and had excellent service. Even had a little issue during stay and they took care of and couldn't have made us happier. When we arrived Tye gentleman working was awesome, made us feel very welcomed and mapped out the places we wanted to check out. Perfect walking distance from gaslamp was quick and ride home in cab was $6! I would love to stay again and would recommend to anyone!

The hotel is cute and charming.
The hotel is cute and charming. It is well located within walking distance from shops, restaurants and the convention center. The room is comfortable and clean. The thermal isolation of the room has a week point at the main door: the cold air enters mainly from below the door freezing the room in 25 minutes. I solve it putting the restroom's rug closing the space before going to sleep. The room has a strong and effective air conditioner which warms up the room in just two minutes. However, it is too loud to leave it working for long time. The breakfast is basic but good. If you don't mind sharing your table and if you like to make friendship talking to others early in the morning, so the two table breakfast room will make you feel at home. Finally, the staff is friendly and helps you with everything. If you want to scape from big and busy hotels, full of services you indirectly pay but you don't use, this is a good option.

Nice & cozy, great location.
It was a nice and small place with beautiful grounds. My daughter came back from her ships deployment and wanted to stay in the city for a little getaway not far from her base. There was lots to do as far as sightseeing and it felt good to know that we weren't to far away. Although I am not use to paying for parking but it was good to walk through the town since we don't have that kind of experience in our hometown.

If you love to walk this would be a great location. Since you would have to pay for parking. The trolley station is just a few blocks or you can take a short taxi drive to the pier for some sea food.

A trustworthy option
Me and my girlfriend were in for just one night - there are fancier hotels than the Cabrillo, but it's simply a solid choice. Truly courteous staff, clean & tidy, and a walk from all the bars. Only thing was, the TV reception went on and off. Turns out the antenna cable just wasn't tight. Keep in mind the Gaslamp has a bit of a college town vibe. If you're looking for something more.. sophisticated/upscale, look at other areas in San Diego.

Nightlife tip:
Long walk from hotel
Don't bother going outside the bar area (between Broadway and F, 4th and 6th) - there isn't really anything else there. Except... The Mission on F and 13th for the best brunch!

Simple
We were doing touristy things while in town. The location of the hotel we convenient, but the parking was very narrow and minimal. The room was fine. The breakfast was minimal and not that great.
