This was the first time I ever stayed at a hostel. I wasn't sure of what to expect. The location was good but they didn't have there own parking.

If you can camp you can do 500 West

The price it right for a NO frills short stay in downtown San Diego. This hotel/hostel is within one block walk of major transportation hubs, Amtrak, SDMTS Trolley, Coaster, and city buses. This is where I stay when I go solo to Padres games, it's a short trolley ride to Petco Park. Also it's easy to make bus connections for a day at the beach! .

Decent hostel experience

I was looking for a hotel room at the last minute on a hotel booking website, and the 500 West Hotel popped up. It was the least expensive and looked like a great location. But I should have read about the "hotel" because it is really a hostel. I've stayed in hostels in Europe, and this was on par with those. The staff were helpful. But definitely don't expect anything like a hotel or motel. I am surprised this qualifies as a two star in the mix with other hotels. Parking is an issue, but meters are free after 6:00 PM on Saturdays and free on Sundays. Otherwise, you will need to pay up to $15-20 for overnight parking in nearby parking structures, without in and out privileges. If you go expecting a hostel experience, this is a good value. I will go again when I need a cheap place to stay at the last minute.

very important bussiness stay

I been in San Diego downtown area many many times and this is the worst experience ever. Got to my room very tired and fall to sleep by 3 A.M. feel few pinches as I turned the lights on, dozens of bedbugs all over my bed , call front desk and nobody answer. I got out and went to the airport to wait for my flight.

500 west

It's a hostel what can I say. It was cheap and in a wonderful location. I'm not let down at all and you shouldn't be just don't have hilton expectations. It's a place to fall asleep and take a shower. I don't understand why people spend so much time at a hotel on vacation anyway

Hostel?

Upon arriving there was absolutely no parking they tell you to pay 25$ a night to park somewhere behind the hotel. Finely finding a place to park the front desk guy Brandon I believe his mane is lost my reservations. While searching for them he asked if it was okay that there weren't restrooms nor showers in the bedroom. Blood on the sheets and no way to even call room service. So not only can you not have privacy to use the bathroom you have to wait for others to finish. The breakfast consisted of an apple and coffee. I guess you can't complain when you pay 85$ for two nights after a 25$ discount code.
