Good location under construction
The hotel was under construction the entire time we stayed here. The already limited and small parking spaces were cut in half by the ongoing construction. This was a busy weekend with the 49ers game, some cheer competition and a motorcycle thing. The first night we stayed here a baby woke us up crying next door before 6 am. This may not have been so bad but our rooms were a connected suite although we didn't know our neighbors. The next morning, while one of us was sitting on the bed, the bottom leg of the bed bent under his weight. He's not a big guy and we had already almost flipped over the entire bed when we first sat down of the bed when we first got here. The breakfast was great as well as the location. The thing that we were really looking for was a spa but that may be too much to ask in downtown Sacramento. Overall just kinda average stay.

Had's Steak and Seafood-We went here on Saturday night when they had a Prime Rib special, which was excellent. They only do it one day a week and it cooks for a minimum of 8 hours. Don't miss out on the fries which have some of the best seasoning I've ever had along with the homemade ranch dressing. We finished with a killer banana cream pie. Don't let the small restaurant deter you, give this food a shot! It's cute and cozy. Plus, the wait staff were funny and helpful. You won't regret going here.

disappointing stay at a reputable chain
I stay at HIE, because I know it is a chain I can depend on... I was extremely disappointed in this particular hotel. Very run-down. Great location, but I honestly felt a little unsafe - the door jamb looked as if someone had tried to break-in at some point! As a Priority Club member, I expect more... I will not be staying at this hotel in the future!

In the Heart of Sacramento
This hotel served our purpose. Affordable, Clean room, friendly staff,Centrally located in downtown Sacramento. Easily walkable to Starbucks, which was a block away. Easy access to free parking. We felt secure the entire time we were there. Computers in the lobby allowed us to print boarding passes and Map Quest info. Screaming deal with hotel and car arrangement with Budget. Had a great time with family at son's graduation/mini vacation. Wine country was an easy drive of about 1 hour and 20 minutes to our first tasting! We would use this hotel again. Downside: slow elevator to top floor (4 floors), workout room small, I did not see a pool.

Check out some of the unique restaurants in Sac... Caferteria 51, Pizza Rock (K Street), Ernestos is fun on Friday Mariachi night, and great food as well. Lot's to do if you do not have a car as well... explore the town. If you happen to be Catholic, don't miss mass at the Cathedral less thean 3 blocks away.

Got MY vote!
We chose HI Express because it's close to the convention center, but not so close or so faux-luxurious that they charge an arm and a leg. Can't imagine a better bargain. Besides, we've stayed there before for a previous Dem convention and had been totally satisfied. They had our room ready well before legit check-in time so we could grab lunch and register for the convention on time. The room is very comfortable, clean, and everything worked as it should. Breakfast offers anything and everything you could want or expect. I appreciated the exercise room and the free parking, since we left the car and walked everywhere. The location is great for walking to restaurants--some very good ones just directly up 16th Street, and more near the convention center--can especially recommend Ma Jong (Chinese) and Sapporo (Japanese).
