Nice Hotel

This hotel has a great location ( in a commercial area off Route 101 just under 15 miles from SFO airport). The staff is attentive and courteous. The restaurant (French cuisine) is up to par. The rooms are spacious with especially comfortable beds. The only shortcoming is that it does not have a real business center, just two computers connected to a printer on the Lobby floor. Overall, the hotel will make most visitors quite happy.

Not the best Sofitel but it did the trick

The hotel is in a business area which is kind of boring. the lobby is beautiful and the rooms were good. But compared to the Sofitel in Chicago it's not as fabulous. Could use some updates but it was clean and he staff was great.

Good experience, but can be pricey

Sofitel San Francisco is our hotel of choice when visiting the San Francisco area. It is an upscale hotel, about 20 minutes south of SFO Airport (Ralston exit East, off the 101, Marine to Twin Dolphins). The rooms are a comfortable size, and the beds are very comfortable. In general rooms are quiet, but you can hear doors to nearby rooms when they close (with a solid Ca-THUNK). Rooms are, for the most part, clean (although there may be occasional exceptions). Avoid rooms near the ice machine. Rates vary from day to day, because the Sofitel services Oracle, Electronic Arts, and other Silicon Valley companies. When demand is high, so are the prices. Parking is convenient in a garage next to the hotel, and you have the choice of self-park (at no additional cost) or valet park (they kinda like to be tipped). There is an upscale restaurant in the hotel, but prices are a bit on the high side. They do give you decent food, with a nice presentation. Bar drinks are similarly pricey (expect to pay a minimum of $10 per drink, plus tip). They have a fitness center that is better than most hotels, but nowhere near what you'd find in a gym. The equipment is excellent, but except for treadmills and ellipticals and bikes, there's just not a lot of it. The 3rd floor is a "doggy" floor, and they occasionally get excited (and some can't wait until they get to a tree or fire hydrant). You will need a car – almost nothing is within walking distance, except for Oracle and Electronic Arts. With wheels, you have access to a lot of excellent restaurants and other commerce. The staff is always accommodating and friendly.

Amici's Italian restaurant is in the shopping center located on Redwood Shores Parkway. Good food and prices. Other restarants are there too and a grocery store.

More like the Best Western than the Sofitel

I travel on business a lot, and have stayed at the Sofitel. This was more like a overpriced Best Western in Silicon Valley. Will not stay here again. Hotel staff was courtesy , rooms and carpet needed a definite remodel and update! The restaurant staff were rude and the food was not that great. But there is no other eateries in the area so we have no choice but to eat in the SOFITEL.

Hotel was nice, lovely view. Expected more amenities, there was no refrig or microwave, no continental breakfast. Staff friendly. Plenty of parking.

I will definitely stay when I visit the area again.

The location is adequate for a business trip. The service agents (front desk, the bartender, bell service, and the house keeper) were all very professional and assisted me whenever I needed something. The house keeper was very proactive and supplied services when I did not ask and was well timed and appropriate. A great stay for the picky business person.

A Bit of Elegance in Redwood City

Spartan hotel rooms are fine by me, so the Sofitel was something of a luxurious experience. The comfortable bed was loaded with pillows, and the soft white sheets were European style, the comforter cover serving as the top sheet. The view from our fifth story window was lovely, as we looked out over the lagoon and the wooded hills to the west. The full moon from our window was striking, and the small loveseat beneath the window made it easy to watch. I'd shell out the extra cash for a room facing the lagoon. Oddly, the bathroom seemed to have no fan, although there was a vent in the shower stall, and the room got a bit muggy after a long bath. Parking is free and plentiful, but don't expect to be able to walk to any tourist attractions. Even Redwood City, a quaint enough Peninsula town, is on the other side of the freeway. San Francisco is about a half an hour drive north, although SFO is very close. The technical staff was very friendly when I asked if the TV could read a usb flashdrive. (It couldn't.) Overall, a very pleasant experience. I could get used to these nice hotels.
