Redirected to Another Hotel!

Upon check-in, I was told they overbooked the hotel and that they were sending me to another hotel a block and a half away and they would pay for my room there. Crazy! I've never had something like this happen to me before. The other hotel, the Best Western Inn, was was decent/nice, so I have no complaints. It also looked a little nicer than the Sequoia Inn from the outside. (I can't speak to the inside because I never saw the inside of a Sequoia Inn room.) This hotel switch was very surprising, though it worked out fine.

Good for visiting Stanford

Stayed for only one night after visiting Stanford. Very nice man at front desk. The room was small and had everything I needed, although I really didn't need much. About a 15 minute walk from the Redwood City Caltrain. I would stay again if I needed somewhere near Stanford.

You get what you pay for

I was just looking for a cheap hotel for myself for a short stay. It fit the bill to that end but nothing more. The room was relatively clean, but this is not your typical hotel. People do live in some of the rooms, including the owners who live in a room behind the office. Next time I visit I would probably spend a little more money for a location that is not as sketchy.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

A few blocks east on El Camino Real there are some really nice places to eat starting at El Camino Real and Broadway. For more options, walk north on Broadway. I walked all the way north into the Theatre district which has the Fox theatre and a movie theatre across the street from the San Mateo Library. The entire walk there features many places to eat, including exotic restaurants such as Persian, Turkish, Italian, Mexican, and others.

Basic place to sleep

Desk clerk was very friendly and delivered extra pillows and ironing board within minutes. The bathroom fan could wake dead people. I didn't expect a double bed, which was my fault. Nice TV with digital cable and a micro/fridge. Starbucks, donut shop just one block away. For a very quick one-night sleep this was OK. My objective was cheap/clean and this filled that bill.

Good Deal

Helpful and very friendly staff, very knowledgeable about the going ons in the SF area which was very cool. The rooms clean for the most part, we requested a non-smoking room but there was that lingering smell all the same. Good price, good location, overall enjoyable stay.
